[T10] Recent T10 documents uploaded since 2021/09/04

For the command in question (MODE SENSE(6) ) a one byte length in the CDB set to 0 is interpreted as 256, same as READ(6). However the description of the mode sense length field in the header is silent about the meaning of 0. However i am sure that Seagate products would never put 0 in that field, making the question moot.

On the use of zero, zero length reads are an old trick-of-the-trade for proof-of-life checks.

Does a value of 0 in the field not mean 256 bytes? 0 bytes would be meaningless, and that was the convention when there were commands like READ(6).

Question -- does "....phism" count as one syllable or two?

All,

I agree with the main intent of 21-109r0. However, in perhaps a vainglorious attempt to achieve r1 in 21-109, we could redress an anthropomorphism that has avoided our notice.

Should the proposed modified sentence "The MODE DATA LENGTH field in the six-byte CDB header limits the transferred data to 255 bytes" be further modified to "The size of the MODE DATA LENGTH field in the six-byte CDB header limits the transferred data to 255 bytes"?

Do we have a significant number of ‘the field … limits…” structures in SPC-6? I did a quick scan of the 110 instances of ‘limits’ in SPC-6r05 and didn’t see any others. This is the only instance of “limits the”.

(Thank you Fred, I rarely get to use six syllable words).

John
