All,
The SMC-3 working group is working towards completing development during the
September T10 plenary week.
One of the customer requests in our tracking document was defining additional
sense codes for common media changer conditions and defining when those
additional sense codes are used. Towards that goal the working group
reviewed all of the existing additional sense codes and common conditions
that do not have additional sense codes. The following document tracks
potential new additional sense codes for the common conditions that do not
have additional sense codes:
http://www.t10.org/cgi-bin/ac.pl?t=d&f=08-272r3.pdf
Work has progressed well on defining the use of existing sense codes but
several of the potential new additional sense codes still need proposals for
when those additional sense codes should be reported. If proposals are not
received by the July plenary week meetings attempts to standardize the
proposed new additional sense codes may be dropped.
During the May T10 meeting the working group reviewed the list of potential
additional sense codes and identified several that we feel should be defined
if possible. Companies developing medium changers or applications using
medium changers are encouraged to consider providing some text for how these
proposed additional sense codes should be used. Proposed text may be
formatted as a T10 proposal or you may send suggestions to me and I will
either get somebody to write them as a formal proposal or we will work
through the suggestions interactively during a meeting.
The following potential additional sense codes have been identified as
particularly useful:
IMPORT/EXPORT ELEMENT ERROR - there are several potential variations for this
in the document. At least defining a base I/E error would be useful.
DATA TRANSFER DEVICE ERROR (LOAD/UNLOAD/EJECT) FAILED - A group of potential
codes which could help differentiate between load/unload failures due to a
library fault and load/unload failures due to a drive fault.
