It's also used for unit attention interlock (a feature requested by the iSCSI
community).
When enabled, after the device server returns BUSY, TASK SET FULL, or
RESERVATION CONFLICT, it starts returning
CHECK CONDITION/UNIT ATTENTION/PREVIOUS BUSY STATUS
for every command from that I_T nexus until it processes a REQUEST SENSE
command from that I_T nexus. The REQUEST SENSE command clears a unit
attention interlock the same way a CLEAR ACA task management function
clears an ACA condition.

I support Katata-san.
The REQUEST SENSE command is very useful in monitoring the progress
of long-running operations, some of which have been pushed into the
background by setting the IMMED bit to one.
In fact, I have just posted a proposal to enhance this capability.

In the case of autosense environment, to see the progress indication
in the
sense data, you may use the request sense command alone.

For protocols that use autosense, probably not.
For protocols that do not have autosense, you bet. (There are quite a
few wide
spread protocols that do not have autosense capability).
