For ATA you'd use SMART RETURN STATUS (See ATA-7)
For SCSI delve into the informational exceptions.

SMART parameters are not standardized. Each vendor has their own list of
parameters and may have slightly different methods to read them. Each
vendor uses those parameters in vendor specific ways to "predict"
whether
the drive will fail shortly. In general, drive vendors do not share all
these details with customers. The details of exactly what changes in a
particular drive's parameters will predict failure are considered
proprietary, although some papers on this subject have been published by
respected drive researchers during the last 10 years. The only common
characteristic across vendors is the procedure to report this predicted
failure and a strong suggestion that the drive be replaced immediately
when
such a report occurs.

Dear All,
Where can I find dedicated standards/documentation for reading SMART
parameters for any kind of hard drive?
Thanks in advance.
