Yes.

Maybe more commonly people implement more or less proprietary ad-hoc
bootstrapping algorithms, for example, if op x12 "INQUIRY" says PDT =
x00 HDD then op x25 "READ CAPACITY" should report maxLba or maxLba+1.

If & when they choke over SK ASC = x 5 20 Unknown Op, then they revise
the algorithm.
