See T11/02-532v0 for the letter to INCITS founding T11.5.
The founding meeting will be Tuesday, October 8, 2002 in
New Orleans, LA.
I have appointed Roger Cummings chair of T11.5. Roger comes to
us with a vast and well-recognized knowledge of T11, INCITS
standardization procedures, and SAN and management technologies.
At present, there are three volunteers for the additional
officers positions. Selection of the officers will depend
on their management's approval and their qualifications in the area
of management and standards and should be completed
quickly. It is not too late to volunteer if you are interested.
With suggestions from David Black and Roger Cummings, the proposed
scope for TG T11.5 is modified to allow a broader selection of
storage environments, including both SAN and NAS.
PROPOSED TITLE FOR TASK GROUP T11.5
Storage Management Interfaces
PROPOSED SCOPE FOR TASK GROUP T11.5
Task Group T11.5 will take an all-inclusive approach to
the definition of device level interfaces between
management applications and all devices in a storage
network. Such devices may include storage
devices, server devices, gateway devices, fabric devices,
and other related equipment. T11.5 will emphasize
techniques which are independent of network topology,
platform environment, and infrastructure technology.
T11.5 will specifically address heterogeneous storage network
configurations which incorporate interfaces based on T11
standards (e.g. Fibre Channel) as well as technologies
not developed in T11. It will seek to use existing
management schemes and protocols to the maximum
extent possible. It will provide guidance designed
to optimize and standardize the implementation of management
schemes for storage networks, facilitating interoperability. It
will
not create modifications of schemes defined by other
organizations, but will maintain liaison with them to
facilitate the incorporation of features in those
schemes that contribute to the work of T11.5.
