Hi Peter,

Read TOC format 10b full TOC is not used to recognize multi session CD. Read TOC
format 01b last session start address is used. And in case of DVD, you can not
use MSF format. So Read TOC command must be used by LBA mode (MSF bit shall be
set to 0). This means full TOC format can not work on DVD-R/RW, +R.

To find last session/bordered area start address, Read TOC format 01h with LBA
mode must be used. Of cause, the second track start address is same as the last
session start address if multi-session disc has only 2 tracks.

Best regards,

Dear Katata-san, Chigita-san, All,

How would one go about this today ?
I mean, how can you best determine the session and track layout of a DVD-R
(or a DVD+R for that matter).

I always liked Read TOC (full TOC, format field 0010b) on devices that do
not support RDI and RTI,
but unfortunately this is not supported anymore on DVD.

What command (sequence) would you suggest ?

Best Regards,
Peter
