Results of Meeting

1. Opening Remarks

John Lohmeyer, the T10 Chair, called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.,
Thursday March 8, 2001. He thanked Paul Aloisi of Texas Instruments for
hosting the meeting.

John said that NCITS Subgroup Membership forms and the T10 Mailing
Subscription form were available from the head table. He said that people
should use the NCITS forms to insure the NCITS Secretariat has the latest
membership information. These forms should be mailed directly to the NCITS
Secretariat.

As is customary, the people attending introduced themselves and a copy of the
attendance list was circulated. Copies of the draft agenda and general
information on T10 were made available to those attending.

2. Approval of Agenda

The draft agenda was approved with the following additions/changes:

10.1.1 Proposal for Ultra320 AAF receiver input signal specification for
SPI-4 (00-400r2) [Evans]
10.1.2 Receiver Response Requirements (00-332r4) [Ham]

meeting:

8.19 SCSI Serial Bus Protocol -3 (SBP-3) {Project 1467-D} [Johansson]

3. Attendance and Membership

The membership requirements were reviewed. NCITS rules permit one vote per
organization. An individual from a new organization must attend at least one
T10 plenary meeting as an Advisory Member. He/she may apply for voting
membership at this meeting, which becomes effective following adjournment of
the meeting. Voting privileges begin upon receipt by the NCITS Secretariat of
applicable fees for the membership year.

To maintain membership, organizations must pay the NCITS Service Fee ($800).

John briefly discussed the mailing fees. Complete pricing information is
contained in the 2001 membership form (available at
ftp://ftp.t10.org/t10/mem_form.txt).

There are also minimum attendance requirements to maintain voting membership
on T10. If a member organization fails to attend two of the last three T10
meetings, they are warned that failing to attend the next T10 meeting would
result in their membership being terminated.

The Chair said he had sent letters to 12 people from 5 organizations informing
them that their membership was in jeopardy due to non-attendance (see
01-055r0) and that their membership would be terminated if they did not attend
this meeting. The following organizations were in attendance jeopardy:

General Dynamics
Hewlett Packard Co.
Hitachi Cable Manchester, Inc.
Honda Connectors
Maxtor Corp.

All of these organizations were present.

No organizations requested new (or reinstated) membership.

The T10 membership during the meeting was 46 organizations unchanged from 46
organizations following the last meeting. Enclosure (1) is the list of the
people present at the meeting and enclosure (2) is the current T10 membership
list.

No organizations requested new membership following the adjournment of the
meeting.

T10 membership following the meeting was 46 members.

4. Approval of Minutes - January `01 Meeting - Lake Buena Vista, FL
(T10/01-008r0)

The minutes were approved as written.

5. Document Distribution

Members who have any problems with their mailing subscription should deal
directly with Monica Vago (mvago at itic.org) (202) 626-5741.

John Lohmeyer requested that all documents for the next mailing be in his
hands in electronic format by 10:30 a.m. on Thursday March 15, 2001.
Documents received after this time may go into a subsequent mailing.

John reminded the committee of the requirements for document submission.
Since T10 meets its document retention requirements by preparing mailings,
documents included in the mailing must be suitable for archiving. This means
that native-format and/or Portable Document Format (PDF) electronic originals
with proper identification must be submitted.

The electronic copies can be sent directly to John by email (at
lohmeyer at t10.org), or they can be transferred by ftp protocol to ftp.t10.org
and placed in the /incoming directory. In the latter case, please also send
email to John informing him of the file name and location of the file.

Minutes are available on the T10 World Wide Web page (see below), and are
distributed to the T10 Reflector.

To be added to the T10 Reflector, send an email to majordomo at t10.org with the
line 'subscribe t10' in the message body.

The NCITS Secretariat maintains a World Wide Web page at
http://www.ncits.org/. LSI Logic maintains a web site on behalf of T10 on a
server donated by the SCSI Trade Association at:

   http://www.t10.org/

There is also a mirror site at:

   http://www.t11.org/t10/

The current document register is enclosure (3). The T10 document register is
also available at:

    ftp://ftp.t10.org/t10/dr.txt

6. Call for Patents

This is a regular agenda item to identify any potential patent issues with
developing standards and technical reports.

A document is available from ANSI, "Procedures for the Development and
Coordination of American National Standards", at no charge. This document is
also on the WWW at http://www.ncits.org/help/ansi_sdo.html. Section1.2.11
contains the ANSI patent policy. Amy Marasco manages patent issues for ANSI
and can be contacted at amarasco at ansi.org or 212-642-4954. Gene Milligan
prepared a useful "Handy dandy Technical Committee's Patents Guide", which is
available at ftp://ftp.t10.org/t10/document.99/99-291r0.pdf.

John presented a foil containing a summary of the ANSI patent policy prepared
by Gary Robinson. The summary is also included on the Rules and Procedures
(plus Patent Information) page on the T10 web site.

John asked that anyone who knows of applicable patents contact him.

John Lohmeyer reported that LSI is disclosing a patent position on SDV as
described in 01-059r0.

Cris Simpson reported that a statement of the Intel patent policy can be found
in 01-041r0.

10. New Business

10.1 Actions on Parallel SCSI Working Group Recommendations

10.1.1 Proposal for Ultra320 AAF receiver input signal specification for SPI-4
(00-400r2) [Evans]

Mark Evans moved that 00-400r2 be approved for inclusion in SPI-4. Paul
Aloisi seconded the motion.

Bill Ham noted that there are two different sets of launch and receiver signal
requirements with no clear way to decide between those requirements for the
purpose of setting interconnect requirements. In the absence of any other
inputs, the PIP group will be forced to document two relatively independent
sets of interconnect performance requirements.

The motion passed on a vote of 22:1:8:15=46.

10.1.2 Receiver Response Requirements (00-332r4) [Ham]

Bill Ham moved that 00-332r4 be approved for inclusion in SPI-4. Mark Evans
seconded the motion. The motion passed on a vote of 19:2:10:15=46.

10.1.3 Corrections to SPI-4 Driving and Asserting SCSI Signals (01-096r1)
[Moore]

Rob Elliott moved that 01-096r1 be approved for inclusion in SPI-4. Paul
Aloisi seconded the motion. The motion passed on a vote of 22:0:8:16=46.

10.1.4 Floor Motions [Penokie]

George Penokie reviewed the following floor motions from the SPI-4 working
group:

o [by Brian Day and Bruce Leshay] After reselection targets must release
SEL for a minimum two deskew delays before asserting SEL as described in
    SPI-4 subclause 10.8.4.2.2.
o [by Bruce Leshay and George Penokie] In 10.5.4 add in a requirement
that if ATN is asserted, then the target shall go to message out, receive
all the message bytes, and the perform an unexpected bus free.

George noted that the working group unanimously approved both motions.

Mark Evans moved that the recommendations of the working group showed above be
approved for inclusion in SPI-4. Rob Elliott seconded the motion. The motion
passed on a vote of 23:0:9:14=46.

10.2 Actions on CAP Working Group Recommendations

10.2.1 Making Target Reset optional in SAM-2 (01-015r2) [Elliott]

Rob Elliott moved that 01-015r2 be approved for inclusion in SAM-2. Cris
Simpson seconded the motion. The motion passed on a vote of 15:6:11:14=46.

10.2.2 SAM-2 AER enable and disable requirement for protocols (01-061r2)
[Elliott]

Rob Elliott moved that 01-061r2 and 01-065r2 (see item 10.2.3) be approved for
inclusion in SAM-2 and SPC-3, respectively. Cris Simpson seconded the motion.
The motion passed on a vote of 25:0:4:17=46.

10.2.3 SPC-3 VPD Page 83 Device Identifier rewrite (01-065r2) [Elliott]

Inclusion of 01-065r2 in SPC-3 was approved under agenda item 10.2.2.

10.3 Actions on Other Working Group Recommendations

No working group recommendations were brought before the committee under this
agenda item.

10.4 Revised Project Proposal for SCSI Passive Interconnect Performance
Standard (00-238r1) [Ham]

Zane Daggett described the reasons for changing the PIP project from a
technical report to a standard.

Zane Daggett moved that T10 recommend that the project proposal for project
1439-DT be replaced with 00-238r1 with the effect being that PIP is changed
|from a technical report project to a standards development project. Paul
Aloisi seconded the motion. The motion passed on a vote of 26:1:2:17=46.
Mark Evans stated that his no vote was because his company would have to
expend more resources to monitor a standards project vs. a technical report.

John Lohmeyer took an action item to notify NCITS that T10 recommends the
replacement of the project proposal for project 1439-DT (PIP) with 00-238r1.

10.5 Style Guide [Moore]

Dennis Moore asked for volunteers to provide input for the proposed T10
document style guide. He also offered style information such as it is
available to anyone interested.

resolutions and hopes to complete the editorial work necessary for a
recirculation ballot in the very near future.

At its final meeting, the IEEE P1394.1 working group (High Performance Serial
Bus Bridges) voted to forward a draft to the IEEE for sponsor ballot. The IEEE
is in the process of forming a ballot group; the working group Chair, Peter
Johansson (PJohansson at ACM.org), anticipates that the IEEE will commence
sponsor ballot within the next 6 - 8 weeks.

Peer to Peer Data Transport (PPDT), a protocol based upon SBP-2, is still in
its BRC process. The IEEE P1394.3 Chair, Greg LeClair, has asked that Peter
Johansson assume the role of ballot coordinator and arrange BRC meetings to
complete the process as soon as possible.

John Lohmeyer moved that T10 accept the 2002 meeting dates and locations with
the exception of May 2002. Ron Roberts seconded the motion. The motion
passed on a vote of 34:0:0:12=46.

14.1 Authorization of Working Group Meetings

John noted that the working group meetings are required to operate under the
same voting procedures as does T10 (that is, one vote per organization) and
the results of a working group are not binding on the parent committee. Ad
hoc groups should strive to achieve consensus prior to bringing issues to T10.

Mark Evans moved that T10 authorize the T10-related meetings and events in the
list above that had not previously been approved through the end of June 2001.
Ron Roberts seconded the motion. In the absence of any objections, the motion
passed unanimously.

15. Adjournment

The meeting was adjourned at 12:15 p.m. on Thursday March 8, 2001.
