Apologies if this is an incorrect use of the reflector but I've perused
the documents and haven't found a specific answer to this question.
Perhaps it is vendor specific. If so I'll query them, but my presumption
has been that this should be defined by the standard.
Question: What is the threshold for ARRE sector reallocation?
The standard says that "defective sectors" are reallocated if a write
errors but is able to recover the data. OK, but clearly every sector
which demonstrates ECC at any level is not reallocated. When I run
a butterfly seek on a disk I can experience 4 digit error counts without
adding a single entry to the grown defect table.
So... any insight would be welcomed...
