Ultra is a marketing term without detailed specifications. The
specifications for Ultra 2 are found in SPI-2 and Ultra 3 in SPI-3. T10 has
approved a proposal to change the impedance specifications for the cables
in SPI-3. So called "high quality" SPI-2 Fast 40 cables are said to comply
with the new specifications. Whether or not this complies the goal to have
SPI-3 Fast 80 operate reliably over the SPI-2 Fast 40 installed cable plant
is in the eye of the beholder.

Capacitance loading requirements were tightened between SPI-2 and SPI-3
which impacts terminators. SPI-2 terminators may meet the SPI-3
requirements but they were not required to meet them.

Are there any changes to the LVD terminator or cable (impedance, maximum
distances) specifications between Ultra 2 and Ultra 3?

Thanks,
              Joe
