Subject: Proposed Charter for Information Technology Accommodation of
People with Disabilities Standardization Study
Group
Information Technology Accommodation of People with Disabilities
Standardization Study Group
Scope:
[NCITS prepares a scope and program of work as the charter for an SG. The
charter may contain additional
guidance or constraints, as appropriate.]
The Study Group will look at the feasibility of standardization in the
following areas related to the use of IT to support people
with disabilities:
1. The development of protocols and related specifications to support the
implementation of intelligent, self adjusting, interfaces
between accommodation devices (accessors) and the human-computer interfaces
(i.e, the keyboard, mouse, and display
ports).
Guidelines for providing internal access.
Guidelines for providing external access.
Functions performed by an intelligent interface.
Functions performed by an accessor.
The physical interface between an intelligent interface and a product.
The physical interface between an accessor and an intelligent
interface.
Performance characteristics at the interface between an accessor and a
user.
The specification of the minimum information needed from each
workstation component to support "self programming"
of such an intelligent interface.
2. Criteria and methods for the development of "best practice" guidelines
in the field.
3. Criteria and methods for the determination of adequate performance in
the field.
Program of Work:
[The program of work contains the expected time schedule for completion and
submission of the SG report and
recommendation for (or against) a proposed project.]
Organization Meeting Convened: Within 90 days of the approval of this
Charter
Report on the state-of the-art, definitions, and requirments for each
element of the scope: Within 12 months of the
Organization Meeting
Final Report of the SG to include NCITS Project Proposals or JTC1 New Work
Items as appropiate: Within 24 months of
the Organization Meeting
