Our email guru thinks the 'poor man's ellipsis' may have been the problem.
He is checking it out.  Apparently, SMTP uses a line containing nothing but
a dot in column 1 as an end-of-data marker.  For future postings (until we
find a fix to the problem), I'd advise putting the poor man's ellipsis in
column two (e.g., space dot<cr>space dot<cr>space dot<cr>).
