CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
Joint NASA and IEEE Mass Storage Conference
Sixth NASA Goddard Space Flight Center Conference on Mass Storage Systems
and Technologies
Fifteenth IEEE Symposium on Mass Storage Systems
March 23 - 26, 1998
University of Maryland University College Conference Center
College Park, Maryland, U.S.
This Conference provides a forum for discussion of issues relevant to the
management of large volumes of data. The Conference encourages all
interested organizations to discuss long term mass storage requirements and
experiences in fielding solutions. Emphasis is on current and future
practical solutions addressing issues in data management, storage systems
and media, data acquisition, long term retention of data, and data
distribution.

environmental issues, predicting the future and reconciling past
predictions, high density storage including hybrid magneto/optical,
optical, holographic)
* Systems (Interface and standards, scalability, maintainability and
evolution, integrity and backup, data organization and access, metadata,
scheduling, modeling, requirements, functionality and performance, system
integration, system management, data compression, data migration,
security, long term preservation of information)
* Technology drivers and evolution (Federal/commercial requirements,
consumer market drivers, internet and world wide web, digital libraries,
high performance computing, technology migration)
Paper Submission: A 2 -3 page extended abstract is due Aug. 8, 1997.
Abstracts should be submitted electronically in ASCII, Microsoft Word, or
Postscript format to: ben.kobler at gsfc.nasa.gov. Include: title, author
name, organization, address, telephone number, fax number, and e-mail
address. Acceptance notification will be mailed by Sept. 15, 1997. A near
