SCAM Initiation
In a March 12 posting to the SCSI reflector, Chris Burns of Adaptec correctly
observed that there is an editorial (typographical) error in Annex B
(normative), SCSI configured automatically (SCAM).
In clause B.4.1, SCAM initiation, the first sentence of the second paragraph
reads at present:
"Level 2 SCAM initiators and SCAM targets that have not yet been assigned
an ID
recognize SCAM selection if a pattern of the SEL and MSG true and the
BSY signal
false is detected."
This sentence omits mention of the fact that devices responding to SCAM
selection shall assert SEL and MSG. The corrected sentence should read:
"Level 2 SCAM initiators and SCAM targets that have not yet been assigned
an ID
recognize SCAM selection if a pattern of the SEL and MSG true and the
BSY signal
false is detected and shall respond by asserting the SEL and MSG
signals."
This correction was informally discussed at the SCSI-3 Working Group in San
Diego, March 13, and there is agreement that the correction is needed. Since
an amendment to SPI Annex B to correct SAM terminology is already underway,
the plan is to incorporate the language above into the amendment forwarded to
X3 for further processing.
If anyone believes that the proposed (editorial) correction is not correct,
please indicate this as soon as possible on the reflector.
The SPI amendments (changes to the body and annexes B and D) will be on the
agenda for the May SCSI-3 Working Group in Florida.
