There are 2 examples of real file systems on top of TCP, they are AFS (Andrew
File System) and NFS over TCP (an experimental implementation).
I have the personal experience of using AFS for a period of 2 years from
Minneapolis with the servers in Pittsburgh. A disk controller that runs such
stacks would indeed be interesting.
