X3T9.2/89-69 John B. Lohmeyer NCR Corporation 3718 N. Rock Rd. Wichita, KS 67226 May 16, 1989 Mr. Arnold J. Roccati EG&G WASC, Inc. 1396 Piccard Drive Rockville, MD 20850-4308 Subject: Your comments on X3T9 Letter Ballot (XT9/89-41) on forwarding SCSI-2. Reference: Roccati comments (X3T9.2/89-067) Dear Arnold, It is good to hear from you again. I have missed your direct participation in X3T9.2, but am glad that you still are interested in the SCSI-2 project. I appreciate your efforts in commenting on SCSI-2; the comments have resulted in an improved document. The SCSI-2 editors have addressed your comments as follows: 1-3,14,19. These comments deal with the style of the document. We do intend to follow the correct style in a subsequent revision. However, for now, we are using a software tool to generate section, figure, and table numbers. This tool is not flexible enough to exactly conform to the ANSI style. During the final editing we will convert to the correct style. By the way, it is very likely that we will not publish this document in the ANSI style. Efforts are under way to merge the ANSI and ISO styles. We will probably convert to ISO style and publish one document for both ISO and ANSI. 4. The disclaimer on the front cover has been replaced by the new X3T9 standard disclaimer. 5,7. The connector experts assured the committee that the figures are correct and it is normal industry practice to dimension connectors this way. The socket dimensions are for the entire opening in the plastic and do not show the actual contact dimensions. A note was be added to the figures to make this clearer. 6. Accepted. The editors will make this change in a subsequent revision. They do not have the necessary software tools to revise the figures at this point in time. 8. Accepted, except both figures should use the word "contact". The editors will make this change in a subsequent revision. They do not have the necessary software tools to revise the figures at this point in time. 9-13,15,17,21,24. Accepted. 16. Accepted. For now, we will retain the QIC references -- hopefully some of these will become ANSI documents. 18. The reference to the identify field was deleted. 20. Partially accepted. The "Red Book" is now referenced in the glossary and the "Yellow Book" references IEC 908. Unfortunately there is no IEC reference for the Red Book. Adding these documents to Section 2 is still under consideration; the question is how to properly reference the Red Book. 22. Accepted, except the disclaimer (for ANSI) goes in front of the first appendix and applies to all of the appendixes. In ISO, annexes may or may not be part of the requirements of the standard and each one has a disclaimer if it is not part of the requirements. 23. Accepted. Unfortunately, the editors only fixed the first table in this appendix. We will do the other table in rev 10. (There is always something more to do...) Once again, thank you for your comments. Sincerely, John B. Lohmeyer, Chairman X3T9.2 cc: Mr. Del Shoemaker, Chairman X3T9
