All Kal is really asking for is if we are on target for Milestone 4…

So what you REALLY want is “when is it safe to build to that spec”? And that all depends on your willingness to accept risks in exchange for faster product availability.

And that is also where committee participation provides you with a greater insight into which things are likely to change before publication and which not.

Hi:

I'm interested in when the balloting has been done and it looks like the standard has pretty much been defined. I know that projects done by committee can take a lot longer than first forecast so I'm just looking for a rough estimate, 1 year +/- 6 months.

Thanks,

Lets be a little easier on Kal...

Are you interested in knowing when the standard will be available for purchase, or are you interested in when T10 has projected to be done with the balloting?

Dr. Keskinen,

Another aspect of the answer is that while many members have a model of when, how , and where a SAS4 standard would be published, there is no guaranteed or even official timeline. There is a target set at the beginning of the project, but that is not updated with progress or problems until it is missed.

There may be a consensus target amongst the members, but sometimes the cynical outliers are more accurate.

An answer from the chair (Ralph Weber), is an informed opinion (once you agree on a specific development target (e.g., those that are committee controlled, those that are INCITS controlled and those that are ANSI controlled), but any answer needs to be taken in risk context.

Regards,

John Geldman
T10 Secretary

Dear Dr. Keskinen,

Unfortunately, the question is not phrased in terms that correlate to the terms used in the process for developing an American National Standard. Please be so kind as to further define the phrase "officially released" as you understand its meaning.

All the best,

Ralph Weber
T10 Chair
