The SMR study group will hold a meeting:
  on: Friday, May 10
from: 9:00 am to noon
where: Red Lion Hotel, Bellevue, WA
The agenda for the meeting is to briefly discuss the principles of SMR
(Shingled Magnetic Recording).
There will be discussion of various possible methods for host managed SMR.
Several disk drive companies will have presentations about host managed SMR
approaches.
These methods vary from using existing direct access device command set
with one or two additions,
to a new direct access command set, to using the tape command set.
The goal is to explore the advantages of various approaches along with the
effort required for a host
to use the approaches. Different market segments may prefer different
approaches.
This is intended to be the start of a series of meetings to gather input
|from host companies on their
preferences for host managed SMR methods and narrowing the preferred
approaches to one or two.
This is an open meeting -- anyone with interest in the subject may attend.
T10 membership is not required.
