The MDC Telecon was held at 4:00pm CDT on May 31, 2012. The agenda was to
discuss progress on
the 12-034 rev 2 - Multi-characteristic Device Commands proposal.
Attendees:
Jack Harwood (EMC)
Dan Colgrove (HGST)
Chris Williams (HP)
Curtis Ballard (HP)
John Lohmeyer (LSI)
Gerry Houlder (Seagate)
Joel Schipper (Seagate)
Jim Hatfield (Seagate)
Mike Fitzpatrick (Toshiba)
Paul Suler (Quantum)
Rev. 2 of 12-034 was discussed, there weren't any significant changes
requested.
Study group goal is to define a document that is firm enough so that host
end and target end implementations are possible. This means getting a
Peripheral Device Qualifier (in standard INQUIRY) assignment, four command
opcode/ service action assignments, and a VPD page assignment in addition
to the detail in 12-034r2. John Lohmeyer suggested that this should be done
within the context of an approved project, not just a study group proposal.
The group suggested the need for more justification for the project, with
explanation of areal density improvement that might be possible and other
justifications. This information should be made available for The CAP
meeting in July, under the agenda item for 12-010 (the project proposal for
MDC).
The telecon ended at 5:20 pm.
