Ralph,
I wasn't clear from the email, do we actually use upper case lists? It seems
over-officous to ask us to define a convention we don't use. (But arguabilly
justified if we do)
(excuse my cell phone spelling)

The ISO editor complained about the following text in SAS-1.1
subclause 3.5 (Editorial conventions):
"Lists sequenced by letters (e.g., a) red, b) blue, c) green) show no
ordering relationship between the listed items. Lists sequenced by
numbers (e.g., 1) red, 2) blue, 3) green) show an ordering relationship
between the listed items."
The complaint was phrased as follows:
"Please add the meaning of A), B), C) etc. at the end of the paragraph
"Lists sequenced by letters..." (it is sufficient to Add capital A) in the
examples in 3.4. But what to do the colours mean this is not explained.)"
The text at issue is a direct quotation from the T10 Style Guide.
In response, I have edited 3.4 as follows:
<begin>
Lists sequenced by lowercase or uppercase letters show no ordering
relationship between the listed items.
EXAMPLE 1 - The following list shows no relationship between the colors
named:
a) red, specifically one of the following colors:
 A) crimson; or
 B) amber;
b) blue; or
c) green.
Lists sequenced by numbers show an ordering relationship between the listed
items.
EXAMPLE 2 - The following list shows the order in which a page is meant to
be read:
1) top;
2) middle; and
3) bottom.
<end>
Based on the new degree of pickiness at ISO, I recommend the T10 Style
Guide be updated to replace the old text with the new.
All the best,
.Ralph
