We Panasonic have some comments on Fuji6r100DRAFT2_diff.pdf.
Please understand this E-mail as voted "affirmative" when all the
following comments will be handled appropriately.
1. Formattable Feature
In page 432, the document said,
If the currently mounted media is neither BD-R nor BD-RE, byte 4
through byte 11 shall be set to all zeros. See MMC for the
definition of byte 4 through byte 11.
But according to MMC, there are no such a requirement. As far as I
remember, these bit is not dynamic. Mt.Fuji definition is a mistake and
the first sentence must be removed.
2. Fields and bits in CDBs
LLBAA bit and Subpage Code field of MODE SENSE(10) command, LBA field of
READ CAPACITY command and DESC bit of REQUEST SENCE command are
specified to be mandatory to be set to zero.
Does this mean the drive have to ensure those fields and bits are set to
zero? Or can the drive ignore them?
According to MMC5r02b.pdf, the drive is allowed to ignore those bits and
The implementor may be confused by the current Mt.Fuji definition.
Mt.Fuji should use the same definition with MMC.
3.Explanation of READ TRACK INFORMATION with Open bit
Following definition is the drive behavior when Open bit is set but no
open track exist from the specified Track and higher.
If the Open bit is set to one, the Track/RZone Information Block of
the open Track/RZone that has the smallest Track/RZone number
greater than or equal to the specified Track/RZone number in the
Logical Block Address/ Track/Session Number field is returned. When
no open Track/RZone exist, the logical unit shall transfer the
Track/RZone Information Block with the following fields set to all
- the Session/Border Number (LSB) field
- the Session/Border Number (MSB) field
- the Track/RZone Number (LSB) field
- the Track/RZone Number (MSB) field
And all the other fields except Track/RZone Information Length field
shall be set to 00h in the Track/RZone Information Block.
Someone said to me that the second sentence;
When no open Track/RZone exist,
looks only for the closed Sequential recording media. To avoid this
confusion, the sentence should be;
When no open Track/RZone exits at the specified Track/RZone and
4. READ TRACK INFORMATION
It is allowed to set the Open bit in the CDB to request to transfer the
information of Lead-in of the mounted CD disc.
But it is not clear which information is reported, the information of
Lead-in or of the first open Track?
5. READ TRACK INFORMATION
It is prohibited to set the Open bit in the CDB to request to transfer
the Invisible/Incomplete Track of the mounter CD disc as follows;
On CD-R/RW media, when the Address/Number Type field is set to 1 and
the Logical Block Address/ Track/Session Number is set to FFh or
when the Address/Number Type field is set to 2, the Open bit shall
be set to 0. Otherwise the command shall be terminated with CHECK
CONDITION status, 5/24/00 INVALID FIELD IN CDB.
Why the Open bit must be zero when the information of Invisible/Incomplete
Track is requested?
6. Jump Interval setting
The SEND DISC STRUCTURE to specify the Jump Interval must be rejected
with ILLEGAL REQUEST when the Track is Invisible. But it is not
described in the command description. This condition should also be
added in the command section.
7. Manual Layer Jump Address setting
The SEND DISC STRUCTURE to specify the Manual Layer Jump Address must be
rejected with ILLEGAL REQUEST when the Jump Interval has been set. But
it is not described in the command description. This condition should
also be added in the command section.
Why does Mt.Fuji refer SPC-4, though MMC refers SPC-2 as an approved
reference, and SPC-3 as reference under development?
9. State Diagram for Hybrid disc model
I remember the path from "Spin down" state to "Not Ready" state and to "New
Profile and Features created" state upon receiving commands is an
optional behavior and it is not a mandatory function for every drives
which support Hybrid disc.
This should be described in the Figure.
10.READ with Streaming bit one to the remapping LBA
In the Mt.Fuji meeting it was confirmed that the drive must transfer
data read out from the original physical blocks for the READ(12) command
with Streaming bit set to one issued to the remapping LBA on DVD-R DL
disc. It is allowed that the drive can return the erroneous data or NULL
data if the data cannot be read out correctly.
I would like to ask to add this information to the READ(12) command
