For SATA compatibility we cannot drop the 3.3V from the SAS connector.
Whether SAS devices will use 3.3V is the question and it is currently
allowed. SAS devices are not restricted to hard drives.

I have commitment from all SAS Hard Drive Vendors that 3.3V shall never
be used.
Most 3.5" SATA Hard Drive will not use 3.3V in the near future.
We are debating about dropping the 3.3V from SAS connector.

With the current specification, it is allowable that a SAS device
requires 3.3V. The same condition is true for SATA.

In addition to +12V and +5V, does SAS device also need +3.3V?

Thanks,
Kevin
