SAS is designed as a point to point interface, like SATA is. Daisy chaining
two or more devices like parallel SCSI will not work. You need to consider
how many separate connections are provided by the host bus adaptor. If you
need more drives than connection provided by the HBA than SAS expanders
must be designed into the system. You will need to read and become familiar
with the SAS protocol specification to see how these things interact.

Hi experts,
I'm working on a SAS backplane which has 6 connectors to support 6 hard
drives. The question I have is how the connectors on the backplane
connected to the SAS bus. Are they daily-chained just like they are on a
regular pararell SCSI backplane? And does SAS bus need termination at the
end of the bus?

Thanks,
Kevin
