Results of Meeting

1. Opening Remarks

John Lohmeyer, the T10 Chair, called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.,
Thursday July 19, 2001. He thanked LSI Logic for allowing him to host the
meeting.

John said that NCITS Subgroup Membership forms and the T10 Mailing
Subscription form were available from the head table. He said that people
should use the NCITS forms to insure the NCITS Secretariat has the latest
membership information. These forms should be mailed directly to the NCITS
Secretariat.

As is customary, the people attending introduced themselves and a copy of the
attendance list was circulated. Copies of the draft agenda and general
information on T10 were made available to those attending.

No agenda items were added/revised during the course of the meeting.

3. Attendance and Membership

The membership requirements were reviewed. NCITS rules permit one vote per
organization. An individual from a new organization must attend at least one
T10 plenary meeting as an Advisory Member. He/she may apply for voting
membership at this meeting, which becomes effective following adjournment of
the meeting. Voting privileges begin upon receipt by the NCITS Secretariat of
applicable fees for the membership year.

To maintain membership, organizations must pay the NCITS Service Fee ($800).

John briefly discussed the mailing fees. Complete pricing information is
contained in the 2001 membership form (available at
ftp://ftp.t10.org/t10/mem_form.txt).

There are also minimum attendance requirements to maintain voting membership
on T10. If a member organization fails to attend two of the last three T10
meetings, they are warned that failing to attend the next T10 meeting would
result in their membership being terminated.

The Chair said he had sent letters to 19 people from 10 organizations
informing them that their membership was in jeopardy due to non-attendance
(see 01-158r0) and that their membership would be terminated if they did not
attend this meeting. The following organizations were in attendance jeopardy:

Ancot Corp.
Circuit Assembly Corp.
CMD Technology
Congruent Software, Inc.
General Dynamics
Honda Connectors
Molex Inc.
Seagate Technology
Storage Technology Corp.
Woven Electronics

All organizations in attendance jeopardy were present except:

Circuit Assembly Corp.
CMD Technology
Honda Connectors

The members of organizations in attendance jeopardy that failed to attend were
changed to advisory member status.

The following organizations join the committee at this meeting:

Pirus Networks

The T10 membership during the meeting was 45 organizations down from 47
following the last meeting. Enclosure (1) is the list of the people present
at the meeting and enclosure (2) is the current T10 membership list.

The following organization requested new membership following the adjournment
of the meeting:

Veritas

T10 membership following the meeting was 46 members.

John Lohmeyer reminded members that failure to vote on two out of the last
three letter ballots also would result in membership jeopardy and then
reported on the status of companies that have not voted on recent letter
ballots (01-218r0).

4. Approval of Minutes - May `01 Meeting - Nashua, NH (T10/01-143r1)

The minutes were approved as written.

5. Document Distribution

Members who have any problems with their mailing subscription should deal
directly with Monica Vago (mvago at itic.org) (202) 626-5741.

John Lohmeyer requested that all documents for the next mailing be in his
hands in electronic format by 10:30 a.m. on Thursday July 26, 2001. Documents
received after this time may go into a subsequent mailing.

John reminded the committee of the requirements for document submission.
Since T10 meets its document retention requirements by preparing mailings,
documents included in the mailing must be suitable for archiving. This means
that native-format and/or Portable Document Format (PDF) electronic originals
with proper identification must be submitted.

People can obtain T10 document numbers and revised T10 document numbers by
filling out a web form at http://www.t10.org/members/. The assigned T10
document number will be sent to the requestor by email. The requestor may
then reply to this email, including the document to be posted as an
attachment. The document will be automatically posted on the T10 web site.

T10 members can complete this entire process using their personal T10
password. John explained that members who do not know their password should
surf to the above URL and click on the "forgot password" link to have their
password sent to them via e-mail.

John noted that non-members can also use the above document number process,
but their requests will require approval by an administrator.

Minutes are available on the T10 World Wide Web page (see below), and are
distributed to the T10 Reflector.

To be added to the T10 Reflector, send an email to majordomo at t10.org with the
line 'subscribe t10' in the message body.

The NCITS Secretariat maintains a World Wide Web page at
http://www.ncits.org/.

LSI Logic maintains a web site on behalf of T10 on a server donated by the
SCSI Trade Association at:

http://www.t10.org/

There is also a mirror site at:

http://www.t11.org/t10/

The current document register is enclosure (3). The T10 document register is
also available at:

ftp://ftp.t10.org/t10/dr.txt

6. Call for Patents

This is a regular agenda item to identify any potential patent issues with
developing standards and technical reports.

A document is available from ANSI, "Procedures for the Development and
Coordination of American National Standards", at no charge. This document is
also on the WWW at http://www.ncits.org/help/ansi_sdo.html. Section1.2.11
contains the ANSI patent policy. Amy Marasco manages patent issues for ANSI
and can be contacted at amarasco at ansi.org or 212-642-4954. Gene Milligan
prepared a useful "Handy dandy Technical Committee's Patents Guide", which is
available at ftp://ftp.t10.org/t10/document.99/99-291r0.pdf.

John presented a foil containing a summary of the ANSI patent policy prepared
by Gary Robinson. The summary is also included on the Rules and Procedures
(plus Patent Information) page on the T10 web site.

John asked that anyone who knows of applicable patents contact him.

There was no response to the call for patents.

Cris Simpson reported that a statement of the Intel patent policy can be found
in T10/01-041r0.

8. Project Status Reports

8.1 Project Status Summary and NCITS Liaison [Lohmeyer]

John Lohmeyer said that the current T10 project status summary was included in
the T10 Information Packages distributed prior to the meeting and will be
included in the mailing as usual.

Terry Nelson, the NCITS liaison, reported on the activities of the NCITS
meeting a couple of weeks ago. He described a request from the policies and
procedures committee to remove the restriction on NCITS activities for non US
domiciled companies. The effort was tabled and discussions were initiated to
see how the change would work with ANSI practices. In response to a question
|from Terry, John Lohmeyer said that no T10 members are non US domiciled.

John Lohmeyer reported that NCITS is experimenting with electronic meetings.
He suggested that once the kinks are ironed out T10 could make use of this for
meetings that are currently conducted via teleconference.

8.1.1 T12 Orphan FDDI Standards

John Lohmeyer said that Jim Ryland had sent him an email asking whether T10
would be interested in becoming the foster parent to about 20 FDDI standards
that are in maintenance mode in the event that NCITS disbands the T12
Technical Committee. John invited discussion on the subject.

Terry Nelson reported that T12 was disbanded. The remainder of the discussion
did not favor accepting the FDDI standards.

Bob Snively moved that T10 respectfully decline to accept ownership of the T12
FDDI standards due to lack of appropriate expertise. Ed Gardner seconded the
motion. The motion passed on a vote of 35:0:2:8=45.

John Lohmeyer took an action item to respond to Jim Ryland that T10
respectfully declines to accept ownership of the T12 FDDI standards.

8.2 SCSI Fibre Channel Protocol - 2 (FCP-2) {Project 1144-D} [Snively]

Bob Snively reported on activities related to the FCP-2 public review comment

review of the draft. Another meeting will be required in September. SAM-2
revision 19 will be available in time for the mailing and will contain changes
|from the editing meeting as well as any changes approved by this meeting.
Also, the editor was instructed to ensure that 'enabled' is replaced with
'enabled task state' wherever it appears.

8.4 SCSI Primary Commands - 2 (SPC-2) Status {Project 1236-D} [Weber]

Ralph Weber reported that a motion to accept resolutions for the public review
comments will be made later in the meeting.

8.5 MultiMedia Command Set - 3 (MMC-3) {Project 1363-D} [McFerrin]

Bill McFerrin reported that the review of letter ballot comments on MMC-3 was
completed yesterday. The letter ballot resolutions document is 01-167 and will
be uploaded to the web site soon. He noted that the minutes of the MMC-3
working group will be available, but he had not requested a document number
yet.

8.6 Reduced MultiMedia Command Set (RMC) {Project 1364-D} [McFerrin]

Bill McFerrin moved that T10 recommend to NCITS that project 1364 be closed
due to lack of resources to pursue the project. Ron Roberts seconded the
motion. The motion passed on a vote of 34:0:0:11=45.

John Lohmeyer took an action item to notify NCITS that T10 recommends closing
project 1364 (RMC) due to lack of resources to pursue the project.

8.7 SCSI Parallel Interface - 4 (SPI-4) {Project 1365-D} [Penokie]

George Penokie reported on the activities of the SPI-4 working group (minutes
in 01-214). He noted that a letter ballot on SPI-4 is planned following the
September T10 meeting.

8.8 SCSI Domain Validation Technical Report (SDV) {Project 1378-DT} [open]

John Lohmeyer reported on the activities of the SCSI Domain Validation group
(minutes in 01-213). He stated that Ron Roberts has lost management support
for editing SDV and made a call for a new editor. Revision 5 of SDV is
current and posted on the T10 web site.

8.9 SCSI on Scheduled Transfer (SST) {Project 1380-D} [Woelz]

John Lohmeyer reported that the SST letter ballot closed on 10 July and
reported on the results of the letter ballot (01-184r0). John indicated that
the SST working group will be working on resolving the letter ballot comments
between now and their next meeting in October.

8.10 SCSI Medium Changer Commands - 2 (SMC-2) {Project 1383-D} [Oetting]

Erich Oetting reported that work on SMC-2 is progressing and that revision 1
will be provided for the mailing.

8.11 SCSI Signal Modeling (SSM) {Project 1414-DT} [Aloisi]

Paul Aloisi reported on the activities of the SSM working group (minutes in
01-190) and provided an electronic copy of his report in 01-231r0.

Paul stated that the SSM working group is requesting a letter ballot on SSM
rev 4a. John Lohmeyer took an action item to conduct a letter ballot on
forwarding SSM rev 4a to public review.

8.12 SCSI RDMA Protocol (SRP) {Project 1415-D} [Gardner]

Ed Gardner reported that SRP revision 7 is available on the T10 web site. He
noted that the SRP working group has met several times since the last T10
meeting week, both in person and via teleconference, minutes in 01-169,
01-178, 01-195, and 01-206. Ed stated that he hopes to have an SRP revision 8
ready for the mailing.

8.13 SCSI Primary Commands - 3 (SPC-3) {Project 1416-D} [Weber]

Ralph Weber reported that SPC-3 revision 1 will be prepared after this month's
committee mailing but prior to the September meeting week and will contain as
many of the approved proposals as can be incorporated. He reviewed the
schedule for SPC-3 work (00-222r2) and stated that he hopes this plan will
reduce the down time when SPC-3 transits the letter ballot and public review
stages. Key elements of the plan are three editing meetings prior to the
letter ballot and a two-step proposal cut off with more complex proposals
being cut off one meeting cycle earlier than simpler ones.

Ralph Weber moved that 00-222r2 be adopted as the SPC-3 schedule. Bob Snively
seconded the motion. The motion passed on a vote of 28:0:4:13=45.

8.14 SCSI Block Commands - 2 (SBC-2) {Project 1417-D} [Elliott]

John Lohmeyer reported that Rob Elliott has agreed to edit SBC-2. Rob Elliott

revision 4 will be posted prior to the September meeting but not it time for
the next mailing.

8.15 Object-based Storage Devices Commands (OSD) {Project 1355-D} [Weber]

Ralph Weber reported that OSD revision 4 is available on the T10 web site.
Two activities are reflected in revision 4. The working draft was converted
|from Microsoft Word to FrameMaker. Several subclauses on security were moved
|from an informative annex to the body of the working draft. Ralph noted that
between Gene Milligan and himself about 80 editors' notes appear in revision 4
all of which need resolution before OSD is even close to being ready for
letter ballot.

Ralph reported that the information on the OSD reflector is anticipated any
day now.

8.16 SCSI Stream Commands - 2 (SSC-2) {Project 1434-D} [Peterson]

Dave Peterson provided an electronic report on the activities of the SSC-2
working group (01-229r0) which was read to the committee. George Penokie
reported that SSC-2 revision 4 is on the T10 web site. John Lohmeyer reported
that the minutes of the most recent SSC-2 working group meeting are in 01-209.

8.17 SCSI Passive Interconnect Performance (PIP) {Project 1439-D} [Daggett]

Zane Daggett reported on the activities of the PIP working group (minutes in
01-191).

8.18 SCSI Serial Bus Protocol -3 (SBP-3) {Project 1467-D} [Johansson]

Peter Johansson reported that the SBP-3 working group met July 17 - 18 in
Colorado Springs, CO and continues work in three principal areas:

a) FAST_START protocols,
b) isochronous facilities and
c) bridge-awareness for IEEE P1394.1.

See the minutes (01-223) for additional detail.

The meeting schedule for the remainder of 2001 is: August 22 - 23 (Cupertino,

processing as new project proposal for SCSI RDMA Protocol - 2 (SRP-2).

10. New Business

10.1 Resolution of Public Review Comments on SPC-2 (01-194) [Weber]

Ralph Weber reported that the CAP working group recommended approval of
01-194r3 on a vote of 24:0:0 and described the document as resolving all SPC-2
public review comments without making any substantive changes.

Ralph Weber moved that T10 accept 01-194r3 as resolving the SPC-2 public
review comments without introducing substantive changes to SPC-2 and that the
SPC-2 editor be instructed to prepare SPC-2 revision 20 incorporating the
changes described in 01-194r3 and that the chair be instructed to forward

14.1 Authorization of Working Group Meetings

John noted that the working group meetings are required to operate under the
same voting procedures as does T10 (that is, one vote per organization) and
the results of a working group are not binding on the parent committee. Ad
hoc groups should strive to achieve consensus prior to bringing issues to T10.

Erich Oetting moved that T10 authorize the T10-related meetings and events in
the list above that had not previously been approved through the end of
October 2001. Mark Evans seconded the motion. In the absence of any
objections, the motion passed unanimously.
