Results of Meeting

1. Opening Remarks

John Lohmeyer, the T10 Chair, called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.,
Thursday January 18, 2001. He thanked Ron Roberts of Adaptec for hosting the
meeting.

John Lohmeyer reported that Gene Milligan had passed away shortly after the
November meeting and asked that the committee observe a moment of silence in
Gene's memory.

John said that NCITS Subgroup Membership forms and the T10 Mailing
Subscription form were available from the head table. He said that people
should use the NCITS forms to insure the NCITS Secretariat has the latest
membership information. These forms should be mailed directly to the NCITS
Secretariat.

As is customary, the people attending introduced themselves and a copy of the
attendance list was circulated. Copies of the draft agenda and general
information on T10 were made available to those attending.

2. Approval of Agenda

The draft agenda was approved with the following additions/changes:

10.1.1 Proposal for Ultra320 SCSI timing skew specification for SPI-4
(00-399r2) [Evans]
10.1.2 Task Status after PPR (00-403r1) [Galloway]
10.1.3 QAS Handshake Correction (01-031r0) [Galloway]

[Elliott]
10.4 Retain training information correction 00-414r0 [Galloway]
10.5 Obsolete Printer Command Set in SSC-2 [Peterson]

The following agenda items were added/revised during the course of the
meeting:

10.6 Five Year Reviews [Lohmeyer]
12.7 IETF SCSI over IP [Black]

3. Attendance and Membership

The membership requirements were reviewed. NCITS rules permit one vote per
organization. An individual from a new organization must attend at least one
T10 plenary meeting as an Observer. He/she may apply for voting membership at
this meeting, which becomes effective following adjournment of the meeting.
Voting privileges begin upon receipt by the NCITS Secretariat of applicable
fees for the membership year.

To maintain membership, organizations must pay the NCITS Service Fee ($800),
which includes the ANSI International Program Fee.

John briefly discussed the mailing fees. Complete pricing information is
contained in the 2001 membership form (available at
ftp://ftp.t10.org/t10/mem_form.txt).

There are also minimum attendance requirements to maintain voting membership
on T10. If a member organization fails to attend two of the last three T10
meetings, they are warned that failing to attend the next T10 meeting would
result in their membership being terminated.

The Chair said he had sent letters to 10 people from 4 organizations informing
them that their membership was in jeopardy due to non-attendance (see
00-032r0) and that their membership would be terminated if they did not attend
this meeting. The following organizations were in attendance jeopardy:

Dell Computer
Hewlett Packard Co.
Hitachi Cable Manchester
Maxtor Corp.

All of these organizations were present.

The organizations in attendance jeopardy that failed to attend were terminated
(i.e., the principal member was changed to observer status and the first
alternate member, if any, was dropped; additional alternates, if any, were
changed to observers).

The following organizations requested new (or reinstated) membership:

Intel Corp.

The T10 membership during the meeting was 43 organizations up from 42
organizations following the last meeting. Enclosure (1) is the list of the
people present at the meeting and enclosure (2) is the current T10 membership
list.

The following organizations requested new membership following the adjournment
of the meeting:

Emulex
Microsoft Corp.
Troika Networks, Inc.

T10 membership following the meeting was 46 members.

4. Approval of Minutes - November `00 Meeting - Seaside, CA (T10/00-375r1)

The minutes were approved as written.

5. Document Distribution

Members who have any problems with their mailing subscription should deal
directly with Monica Vago (mvago at itic.org) (202) 626-5741.

John Lohmeyer requested that all documents for the next mailing be in his
hands in electronic format by 10:30 a.m. on Thursday January 25, 2001.
Documents received after this time may go into a subsequent mailing.

John reminded the committee of the requirements for document submission.
Since T10 meets its document retention requirements by preparing mailings,
documents included in the mailing must be suitable for archiving. This means
that native-format and/or Portable Document Format (PDF) electronic originals
with proper identification must be submitted.

The electronic copies can be sent directly to John by email (at
lohmeyer at t10.org), or they can be transferred by ftp protocol to ftp.t10.org
and placed in the /incoming directory. In the latter case, please also send
email to John informing him of the file name and location of the file.

Minutes are available on the T10 World Wide Web page (see below), and are
distributed to the T10 Reflector.

To be added to the T10 Reflector, send an email to majordomo at t10.org with the
line 'subscribe t10' in the message body.

The NCITS Secretariat maintains a World Wide Web page at
http://www.ncits.org/. LSI Logic maintains a web site on behalf of T10 on a
server donated by the SCSI Trade Association at:

   http://www.t10.org/

There is also a mirror site at:

   http://www.t11.org/t10/

The current document register is enclosure (3). The T10 document register is
also available at:

    ftp://ftp.t10.org/t10/dr.txt

6. Call for Patents

This is a regular agenda item to identify any potential patent issues with
developing standards and technical reports.

A document is available from ANSI, "Procedures for the Development and
Coordination of American National Standards", at no charge. This document is
also on the WWW at http://www.ncits.org/help/ansi_sdo.html. Section1.2.11
contains the ANSI patent policy. Amy Marasco manages patent issues for ANSI
and can be contacted at amarasco at ansi.org or 212-642-4954. Gene Milligan
prepared a useful "Handy dandy Technical Committee's Patents Guide", which is
available at ftp://ftp.t10.org/t10/document.99/99-291r0.pdf.

John presented a foil containing a summary of the ANSI patent policy that Gary
Robinson had sent to John. The summary is also included on the Rules and
Procedures (plus Patent Information) page on the T10 web site.

John asked that anyone who knows of applicable patents contact him.

Cris Simpson read to the committee the contents of 01-041r0, a statement of
the Intel patent policy.

Neil Wanamaker noted a letter concerning a patent that applies to FCP-2 has
been transmitted to the chair (01-049r0).

John Lohmeyer indicated that a letter will be forthcoming from LSI Logic
regarding their patent position on SDV.

After reviewing and discussing the proposal, Bob Snively stated that he could
support option 2 in 01-026r0.

Rob and Bob agreed on the contents of a revised proposal, 01-026r1, changing
node ID (or node name) to port ID (or port name). Bob made a friendly
amendment to change 01-026r0 to 01-026r1. The amended motion passed on a vote
18:1:13:11=43.

John Scheible reported that IBM desires that all the SSA standards be
reaffirmed. John Lohmeyer reported that no newer versions are yet available
for SAM, CAM, and FCP.

Bob Snively moved that all six standards be reaffirmed but withdrew the motion
when Mark Evans asked to divide the question. The committee agreed that
action on the reaffirmation would be taken in March.

John reported that additional information is available in 01-037r0.

     connector was replaced and
uses a native ATA pinout) for use as an internal drive. It operates at
     3.3V.

  - The proposal from IBM, Fujitsu and Hitachi is a shrinkage of the 2.5" drive
    and retains the same connector.
The size and placement of mounting holes has changed from 2.5" and it
    operates at 5V.

Alvin Cox distributed the first revision of SFF-8460 (HSS Backplane Design
Guidelines) over the reflector and was complimented on the content during the
review by the working group.

Chuck Brill plans to submit the first draft of HSSDC-2 in time for the
mailing.

The low speed people are encountering upon downloading specifications are due
to problems at the ftp site maintained by Western Digital, which relocated all
computer systems to a new facility in the 4Q.

12.4 IEEE 1394 [Johansson]

In the absence of Peter Johansson no report was made.

12.5 IEEE P1285 Status

Gary Robinson reviewed the history of the P1285 project and reported the IEEE
has voted to not extend the P1285 project. John Lohmeyer stated that this
item will be removed from future agendas. Bob Snively asked all present to
inform T10 and T13 should the project be re-started.

12.6 SCSI Trade Association (STA) [Jones/Aloisi]

Paul Aloisi reported on the activities of STA and provided an electronic
report that can be found in 01-051r0.

12.7 IETF SCSI over IP [Black]

David Black reported on the activities of the IETF IP Storage working group,
who held meetings co located with T10 this week. He noted the IETF IP Storage
working group will not co locate with T10 in March due to the fact that IETF
will be meeting in Minneapolis two weeks after the next T10 meeting. However,
a co located meeting in May is possible and should be in the planning.

14.1 Authorization of Working Group Meetings

John noted that the working group meetings are required to operate under the
same voting procedures as does T10 (that is, one vote per organization) and
the results of a working group are not binding on the parent committee. Ad
hoc groups should strive to achieve consensus prior to bringing issues to T10.

Erich Oetting moved that T10 authorize the T10-related meetings and events in
the list above that had not previously been approved. Mark Evans seconded the
motion. In the absence of any objections, the motion passed unanimously.
