1. Opening Remarks

John Lohmeyer, the T10 Chair, called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.,
Thursday November 2, 2000. He thanked Larry Lamers of Adaptec for hosting the
meeting.

John said that NCITS Subgroup Membership forms and the T10 Mailing
Subscription form were available from the head table. He said that people
should use the NCITS forms to insure the NCITS Secretariat has the latest
membership information. These forms should be mailed directly to the NCITS
Secretariat.

As is customary, the people attending introduced themselves and a copy of the
attendance list was circulated. Copies of the draft agenda and general
information on T10 were made available to those attending.

2. Approval of Agenda

The draft agenda was approved with the following additions/changes:

10.3 Actions on October SPI-4 Working Group Recommendations

3. Attendance and Membership

The membership requirements were reviewed. NCITS rules permit one vote per
organization. An individual from a new organization must attend at least one
T10 plenary meeting as an Observer. He/she may apply for voting membership at
this meeting, which becomes effective following adjournment of the meeting.
Voting privileges begin upon receipt by the NCITS Secretariat of applicable
fees for the membership year.

To maintain membership, organizations must pay the NCITS Service Fee ($800),
which includes the ANSI International Program Fee.

John briefly discussed the mailing fees. Complete pricing information is
contained in the 2000 membership form (available at
ftp://ftp.t10.org/t10/mem_form.txt).

There are also minimum attendance requirements to maintain voting membership
on T10. If a member organization fails to attend two of the last three T10
meetings, they are warned that failing to attend the next T10 meeting would
result in their membership being terminated.

The Chair said he had sent letters to 14 people from 7 organizations informing
them that their membership was in jeopardy due to non-attendance (see
00-029r0) and that their membership would be terminated if they did not attend
this meeting. Subsequent to distributing the jeopardy letters, the NCITS
Secretariat clarified their interpretation of the jeopardy rules with regard
to new organizations. Consequently, John reported that Nishan Systems is not
in jeopardy as had been previously indicated. The following organizations
were in attendance jeopardy:

Dell Computer
General Dynamics
Honda Connectors
Iomega Corp.
Panasonic Technologies, Inc.
The JPM Co.

All of these organizations were present except:

The JPM Co.

The organizations in attendance jeopardy that failed to attend were terminated
(i.e., the principal member was changed to observer status and the first
alternate member, if any, was dropped; additional alternates, if any, were
changed to observers).

At the October 18th NCITS meeting, NCITS directed the T10 chair to only allow
one vote for AMP-Madison-Tyco unless they can prove that they are separate
organizations. The committee discussed the decision. John noted that the
organizations had decided that Chuck Brill would be the principal member and
that the Madison representatives would become additional alternate members.

The following organizations requested new (or reinstated) membership:

Amphenol Interconnect
Congruent Software

The T10 membership during the meeting was 41 organizations unchanged from 41
organizations following the last meeting. Enclosure (1) is the list of the
people present at the meeting and enclosure (2) is the current T10 membership
list.

The following organizations requested new membership following the adjournment
of the meeting:

Cisco Systems

T10 membership following the meeting was 42 members.

4. Approval of Minutes - September `00 Meeting - Huntington Beach, CA
(T10/00-308r1)

The minutes were approved as written.

5. Document Distribution

Members who have any problems with their mailing subscription should deal
directly with Monica Vago (mvago at itic.org) (202) 626-5741.

John Lohmeyer requested that all documents for the next mailing be in his
hands in electronic format by 10:30 a.m. on Thursday November 9, 2000.
Documents received after this time may go into a subsequent mailing.

John reminded the committee of the requirements for document submission.
Since T10 meets its document retention requirements by preparing mailings,
documents included in the mailing must be suitable for archiving. This means
that native-format and/or Portable Document Format (PDF) electronic originals
with proper identification must be submitted.

The electronic copies can be sent directly to John by email (at
lohmeyer at t10.org), or they can be transferred by ftp protocol to ftp.t10.org
and placed in the /incoming directory. In the latter case, please also send
email to John informing him of the file name and location of the file.

Minutes are available on the T10 World Wide Web page (see below), and are
distributed to the T10 Reflector.

To be added to the T10 Reflector, send an email to majordomo at t10.org with the
line 'subscribe t10' in the message body.

The NCITS Secretariat maintains a World Wide Web page at
http://www.ncits.org/. LSI Logic maintains a web site on behalf of T10 on a
server donated by the SCSI Trade Association at:

   http://www.t10.org/

The current document register is enclosure (3). The T10 document register is
also available at:

    ftp://ftp.t10.org/t10/dr.txt

6. Call for Patents

This is a regular agenda item to identify any potential patent issues with
developing standards and technical reports.

A document is available from ANSI, "Procedures for the Development and
Coordination of American National Standards", at no charge. This document is
also on the WWW at http://www.ncits.org/help/ansi_sdo.html. Section1.2.11
contains the ANSI patent policy. Amy Marasco manages patent issues for ANSI
and can be contacted at amarasco at ansi.org or 212-642-4954. Gene Milligan has
prepared a useful "Handy dandy Technical Committee's Patents Guide", which is
available at ftp://ftp.t10.org/t10/document.99/99-291r0.pdf.

John presented a foil containing a summary of the ANSI patent policy that Gary
Robinson had sent to John. The summary is also included on the Rules and
Procedures (plus Patent Information) page on the T10 web site.

John asked that anyone who knows of applicable patents contact him. There
were no responses to the call for patents.

7. Review of Old Action Items

399) Gene Milligan will create the T10 style guide document and MSword
templates. Carryover

10.3.1 Proposal to replace the TBDs for Fast 160 in SPI-4 and to winnow
options (00-389r1) [Milligan]

John Lohmeyer moved that 00-389r1 (r0 as modified) be approved for inclusion
in SPI-4. Ron Roberts seconded the motion.

Paul Aloisi noted that the proposal is not fully coordinated with the system
loss information being worked in the PIP group. Bill Ham stated that the
proposal may not be complete but it's not wrong. Bill stated that some cable
length might be lost as a result of the assumptions in the proposal. Paul
expressed concerns about backplanes.

The motion passed on a vote of 25:1:5:10=41.

10.3.2 Attention setup correction (00-401r0) [Galloway]

George Penokie reviewed the contents of documents 00-401r0, 00-252r3,
00-337r1, 00-392r1, 00-397r1, and 00-402r0. Bill Galloway moved that

This item was covered by a motion made under item 10.3.2

10.3.8 QAS signal correction (00-402r0) [Galloway]

This item was covered by a motion made under item 10.3.2

10.3.9 Proposed content for SPI-4 rev 1 (00-378r0) [Penokie]

Mark Evans moved that 00-378r0 be accepted as SPI-4 revision 1. Bill Galloway
seconded the motion. John Lohmeyer noted that some technical changes would be
adopted without the benefit of separate proposals if the motion is approved.
George stated that he felt that no controversial issues were included in
00-378r0. Ed Gardner expressed the belief that document content will not be
affected seriously by accepting 00-378r0. Bill Galloway noted that there are
a small number of relatively minor technical changes that appear only in
00-378r0 and have not been approved in other proposals. The motion passed on
a vote of 17:2:9:15=41.

10.4 Actions on November CAP Working Group Recommendations

10.4.1 ASCQ references in section 5.4 (00-340r1) [Elliott]

14.1 Authorization of Working Group Meetings

John noted that the working group meetings are required to operate under the
same voting procedures as does T10 (that is, one vote per organization) and
the results of a working group are not binding on the parent committee. Ad
hoc groups should strive to achieve consensus prior to bringing issues to T10.

Erich Oetting moved that T10 authorize the T10-related meetings and events in
the list above that had not previously been approved. Bill McFerrin seconded
the motion. In the absence of any objections, the motion passed unanimously.

15. Adjournment

The meeting was adjourned at 12:20 p.m. on Thursday November 2, 2000.
