Hello J?g and all,

My PC and mail system can not show your name correctly. So please forgive
above line.

Now MMC3/Mt.Fuji/OSJ members start the discussion how the device shows it's
supported recording speed setting capability correctly. It includes a list
of current capability for a mounted medium and a list of possible
capability when device does not have any recordable media.

This issue is proposed by OSJ group. The high speed CD-RW disc
specification that is new version of "Orange Book Part III" has several
items those are not covered by MMC. OSJ wants to expand MMC command set,
because current CD-R/RW system works on MMC command set. None of them uses
MMC2 currently.

Please refer to
   ftp.avc-pioneer.com/Mffuji5/Proposal/Jun00/Ricoh/Command_adhoc04.pdf
In the Zip file, there is original RTF document. But it has Japanese font,
so I make a PDF version without Japanese font.
About background, please refer to files in
   ftp.avc-pioneer.com/Mffuji5/Proposal/May00/Ricoh/

The first meeting was held on June 6, 2000. The minutes is
   ftp.avc-pioneer.com/Mffuji5/Minutes/MinJuneCdrwSwg.pdf
A comment for this minutes is posted to Mtfuji2 reflector. So it will be
revised soon.

And MMC3/Mtfuji group will start the discussion of modification of "Get
performance command" and "Set streaming command". Because current "Get
performance command" can not show the list of the device recording speed
capability.

Anyway please send any question/comment to me and reflector.

PS.
All Mtfuji members, I uploaded above files now. The revised
"Command_adhoc" proposal file maybe posted by Ricoh san.

Best Regards.

Subject: Read TOC/ATIP with High speed CD-RW media

Some CD-RW drive manufacturers started to sell drives that
record CD-RW faster than 4x. (e.g. the Plextor PXW-121032)

In the Plextor command reference manual, the highest recording
speed (value 100b) is listed to be 10x while the MMC-2 standard
lists 100b as 8x. This is the value that is returned for e.g.
a 10x Mitsubishi RW medis.

Which interpretation of the Read TOC/ATIP return data is correct?
Is there a need for a change in MMC-2?
