Hello Ralph, SNIA BGW people and all T10 members,

MMC devices can not agree other ASC/ASCQ than 2E/00. Sense Key has no
meaning on SPC2, because only ASC/ASCQ is described in the table. Sense Key
usage for specific ASC/ASCQ is not described on SPC2. I believe this is
deferent issue.
2E/00 has been used since 1998 on the widely purchased system for everyone.
We MMC devices have no choice other than 2E/00.

Best Regards,

Katatasan,

I have reviewed 4.15 (Time-out Model) in 97-103r0 and regret to
report that I'm having difficulty agreeing with the choices of
Sense Key, and ASC/ASCQ. The text that is causing me trouble
is as follows:

"If the command is unable to complete before the time specified
... 7), the Logical Unit may terminate the command, at any time
before the Group 1 Time-out expires, with a Check Condition (Sense
Key 06, UNIT ATTENTION, ASC 2Eh, ASCQ 00 INSUFFICIENT TIME FOR
OPERATION)."

The Sense Key is wrong because this is not a UNIT ATTENTION condition.
A more appropriate Sense Key would be 0Bh ABORTED COMMAND which is
defined as "Indicates that the device server aborted the command. The
application client may be able to recover by trying the command again."

The ASC/ASCQ doesn't seem to me to be a unique enough condition to
require the allocation of a whole new ASC to the purpose. Also, I
don't see how the INSUFFICIENT TIME FOR OPERATION will be a good
candidate for future allocation of ASCQ values.

Here are a couple of ASC/ASCQ combinations (with non-zero ASCQ)
that I think could be used to represent INSUFFICIENT TIME FOR
OPERATION. Where needed, I've included enough already ASC/ASCQ
assignments to give a flavor of the ASC usage.

2Ch/00h COMMAND SEQUENCE ERROR
" /07h INSUFFICIENT TIME FOR OPERATION

3Eh/00h LOGICAL UNIT HAS NOT SELF-CONFIGURED YET
 " /01h LOGICAL UNIT FAILURE
" /02h TIMEOUT ON LOGICAL UNIT
" /05h INSUFFICIENT TIME FOR OPERATION

55h/00h SYSTEM RESOURCE FAILURE
 " /03h INSUFFICIENT RESOURCES
" /05h INSUFFICIENT TIME FOR OPERATION

Thanks for considering these alternatives.

Ralph...
