In the FC-TAPE meeting on May 4th, I reviewed a proposal based on a 68 pin
connector. At the SFF committee meeting the following day, I was asked to
create a new proposal using the 80 pin SCA-2 connector already in use for
SCSI disk drives. Dal Allan felt that there should be an adequate number of
reserved pins and that the form factor difference would prevent any
confusion between the applications. Attached is a pdf document containing
the new proposal. 

Table 1 lists the signal names and is provided for the convenience of the
reviewers. Table 2 references the signals to SFF-8067 and is expected to be
the way the document is finally formatted.  The order of the Fibre Channel
dual port signals has been unchanged from the SFF- 8067 order however all
other pin assignments have been changed. The charge and ground pins were
selected to use the "long" pins already defined for the SCSI SCA-2
application. The electrically quietest signals were selected to surround and
seperate the Fibre Channel port signals. The ESI and library controller
signals were placed on the opposite side of the connector to seperate them
|from the Fibre Channel port signals as I thought they were more likely to be
interfer with each other.

There are 15 reserved pins for future enhancements or additional features.

FC-TAPE group next month in Minnesota and to the SFF the following month
