Hail!

I hope CAM issues are legal here. First, CAM spec. rev. 12b says:

- - - - 8<- - - - - 8<- - - - - 8<- - - - - 8<- - - - - 8<- - - - - 8<- -
- - -

7.6 Asynchronous event callback

[...]

Table 1 - Asynchronous event callback opcode data requirements

Event Opcode Path ID Target LUN Data cnt

Unsol. SCSI bus reset 0x0001 Valid n/a n/a n/a
Unsol. reselection 0x0002 Valid Valid Valid n/a
reserved 0x0004
SCSI AEN 0x0008 Valid Valid Valid Min. 22
Sent BDR to target 0x0010 Valid Valid n/a n/a
Path ID registered 0x0020 XPT ID n/a n/a Min. 1
Path ID de-registered 0x0040 XPT ID n/a n/a Min. 1
New devices found 0x0080 Valid n/a n/a n/a

[...]

The new devices found opcode shall be returned whenever the XPT/SIM issues
an
inquiry which detects that a device is attached which was not previously
found (e.g., a printer powered on after system initialization was
completed).

- - - - 8<- - - - - 8<- - - - - 8<- - - - - 8<- - - - - 8<- - - - - 8<- -
- - -

Does "whenever the XPT/SIM issues an inquiry which detects that a
device is attached" mean that XPT/SIM must look into inquiry data received
by any INQUIRY command whether it was sent by an application or by XPT/SIM
itself (in order to scan SCSI bus/device), or it must do this only only by
INQUIRY command sent by itself?

The second question: CAM spec. defines OSD operation for UNIVOS
(*nix-like OS), LANOS (NetWare), and DOS. To which of these categories one
then should attribute the modern PC OS like OS/2, Windows'95 (even Windows
3.1), and Windows NT?

Farewell!
