X3 Announces Approval of a New Project: SCSI-3 Fast-20 Parallel Interface

Washington, D.C. , October 10, 1994 -- Accredited Standards Committee X3,
Information Technology announces the approval of a new project and
invites interested parties to participate. The SCSI-3 Fast-20 Parallel
Interface Standard is being developed in Technical Committee X3T10-
Lower Level Interface .

The Fast-20 standard is intended to document extensions to X3.253:199x,
SCSI-3 Parallel Interface (SPI) to permit transfer rates of 20 mega-
transfers per second, while maintaining a high degree of compatibility with
SPI.

Functions being considered for incorporation are synchronous data transfer
rates of 20 mega-transfers per second, specification of physical and
electrical parameters appropriate to support the Fast-20 data rate and
other capabilities which fit within the general scope of implementing 20
mega-transfer per second synchronous data transfers on a broad range of
applications.

An initial call for patents and pertinent issues (copyrights, trademarks) is
now being issued. Submit all correspondence to: X3 Secretariat, Attn.:
Lynn Barra, 1250 Eye Street NW, Suite 200, Washington, DC 20005.

The next meeting of X3T10 is scheduled for November 10, 1994 in Palm
