Subject:   Disposition of COPY Function Codes in X3T9.2/90-048R7


WHEREAS:   The SCSI-3 Architecture Model (SAM) provides for 64-bit
           Target Identifiers and 64-bit Logical Unit Numbers
           (LUNs).

WHEREAS:   The new for SCSI-3 COPY Function Codes (05h thru 09h)
           defined in approved document X3T9.2/90-048R7 provide
           only for 8-bit Target Identifiers and 3-bit LUNs, which
           are inadequate to the SAM device model.

THEREFORE, The Accredited Standards Committee X3T9.2 resolves:

THAT:      Those sections of approved document X3T9.2/90-048R7
           pertaining to COPY Functions Codes shall not be
           included in the SCSI-3 Primary Commands (SPC) document.

THAT:      The SPC document shall reserve COPY Function Codes 05h
           through 09h and appropriately note the reason for said
           reservation.

THAT:      COPY Function Codes 05h through 09h shall be available
           for standardization in SCSI-4.

THAT:      The SPC document shall use COPY Function Codes 0Ah
           through 0Eh to define COPY Segment Descriptors that
           fit the SAM device model.
