X3T9.2/92-76 Date: March 16, 1992 To: X3T9.2 Membership From: George Penokie Subject: March 16, 1992 Connector Contact Working Group Meeting Minutes Claude Mosley presented his SCSI-3 Connector proposal (see X3T9.2/92-16R1). This revised proposal addressed in more detail the wording and concepts which would by placed into the SPI standard. Many issues where discussed. The major points where as follows: The first change was to reduce the number of matting cycles from 200 to 50. There was no disagreement with 50 being a minimum requirement. A discussion ensued as to what measurement techniques should be used to determine the pass/fail criteria. It was agreed that the following procedure would be used: 1-Initial contact measurement is made 2-50 mating/unmating cycles 3-Contact resistance is measured (this is an optional step) 4-Perform flowing mixed gas test per IEEE 1156.1 on matted connectors 5-Measure contact resistance and if there is a delta less that 15 milliohm then the connector passes Note:The resistance is to be measured using a 4 point dry circuit method directly across the mated contact. The was agreed that the 'alternate 1' be replaced with 'P-Connector'. The next issue was the dimensions in the figures which indicate wipe length. After some explanations and friendly persuasion Claude agreed to leave all the dimensions as is. The only change to the connector figures will be to add a radius to the pin. The value will changed to 0.040 +/-.010. Molex presented some information on the screw locks which showed that the wipe length was less that expected due to the height of the posts. Amp and Molex are looking into this to see if anything can be changed to guarantee a longer wipe length. George Penokie and Claude Mosley agreed to Rev their proposal to incorporate the above changes. This reved proposal will be distributed at the April SCSI meeting. No further SWIG meetings on this connector proposal will be held. If there are no disagreements the reved proposal will be voted on.
