X3T9.2/91-166 TO: X3T9.2 Members FR: Larry Lamers - Secretary X3T9.2 RE: IEEE NESCOM Meeting DATE: September 27, 1991 On September 25, 1991 the IEEE NESCOM (NEw Standards COMmittee) met at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Piscataway, NJ. This committee reviews the PARs (Project Authorization Request) submitted by IEEE societies and subcommittees to develop standards. NESCOM makes a recommendation on each PAR, which in turn is given to the IEEE Standards Board for action. The chairman of NESCOM is Donald Heirman. The chairman of the Standards Board is Marco Migliaro. Agenda item 5.7 P126 (C/MM) Standard for Disk Attach Interface is the one that is reported on here. The PAR to develop a Disk Attach Interface submitted by the IEEE Microprocessors and Microcomputer Standards Subcommittee was not approved. A motion to withdraw P1261 until an a joint collaborative study is completed passed. A commission comprised of IEEE and X3 people is to review the jurisdiction issue and make recommendations in this area. The expectation is for guidelines to resolve the current issues and to use for future resolution when the areas of interest overlap. The commission is headed by Don Loughry and Paul Borrill. It is my understanding that no meetings of DASG or DADI are allowed until the commission has completed its findings. Furthermore the SD-3 for DADI will be held back until a resolution is reached.
