X3T9.2/91-135 August 23, 1991 Mr. Gene Milligan Seagate Technology MS OKM 251 P. O. Box 12313 Oklahoma City, OK 73157 Subject: Response to X3T9 LB Negative on forwarding SCSI-1 for reaffirmation as an American National Standard. Dear Gene, Thank you for your comment on the X3T9 Letter Ballot regarding the forwarding of X3.131-1986 (commonly called SCSI-1) for reaffirmation as an American National Standard. Your No vote states that SCSI-1 has been superseded by CCS and SCSI-2. However, CCS is not a standard and SCSI-2 is not yet an American National Standard. Since the best efforts of X3 and its subgroups have not yet revised SCSI-1 with SCSI-2, we are left with only two choices under ANSI rules: 1. Withdraw SCSI-1. 2. Reaffirm SCSI-1. In June 1991, X3T9.2 voted unanimously to reaffirm SCSI-1 (39-0-0-20) so that some SCSI standard remain in effect until SCSI-2 is approved. In August 1991, X3T9.2 unanimously voted to stand by this decision. Sincerely, Del Shoemaker, X3T9 Chair cc: John Lohmeyer, X3T9.2 Chair
