X3T9.2/91-73 Rev 0 To: X3T9.2 Committee Subject: SCSI Bus Type Identification Date: May 18, 1991 From: I. Dal Allan As a complement to John's proposal X3T9.2/91-49, I suggest the use of two symbols to help identification of cable and receptacle (especially on the back of a machine pushed up against a wall). This symbolism would be used in addition to the text recommended by John. Single Ended: A circle Differential: A square Within the center of each, a character to identify the type of cable: A = A-Cable B = B-Cable P = P-Cable Q = Q-Cable NOTE: It is necessary to identify the A-Cable because it could have either a 50-pin connector, or a 68-pin connector with only the A-bus terminated. If a machine can support both Single Ended or Differential (but not at the same time) then it would be marked with both, and a slide used to cover the one not applicable in particular configurations. If a cable can support either Single Ended or Differential, it would be marked with both.
