Date: June 18, 1991 X3T9.2/91-071 Rev 1 To: X3T9.2 Committee (SCSI) From: George Penokie (IBM) Subject: Direct Access Removable Media ASCQ's Proposal: We are requesting the addition of 3 ASCQs to the SCSI-3 standard. These ASCQs would be added to the Incompatible Medium Installed (30h) ASC. The reason for these new codes is to notify the system that it has attempted to write to medium or format a medium which is incompatible with the device the medium has been inserted into. This can happen because the new higher capacity diskettes still look the same as the current diskettes. It is, also, very likely a high capacity device will read the lower capacity diskettes without a problem and would only fail if a write or format was attempted.
