X3T9.2/91-62 DATE: 5-3-91 TO: X3T9.2 FROM: Thomas Wicklund / Intellistor RE: Outbound disconnect and Disconnect Time Limit In section 5.6.6 the outbound disconnect is documented as disconnecting for a "disconnection delay" of 200 microsections. In section 7.3.3.2 the Disconnect-Reconnect Page documents a Disconnect Time Limit which specifies the minimum time the target waits after releasing the SCSI bus before attempting reselection. It appears that the Disconnect Time Limit can be used to cause the outbound disconnect message to force a disconnection of longer than 200 microseconds (if both sections are read together). I suggest that this either be explicitly allowed or disallowed (and have no strong opinion one way or another). If outbound disconnect only supports a 200us delay, then section 7.3.3.2 on Disconnect Time Limit should add words to the effect of: "This field does not apply when the target releases the SCSI bus in response to a DISCONNECT message from the INITITATOR." If the outbound disconnect time limit is affected by the Disconnect Time Limit field, then section 5.6.6 should be changed to read something like: "... After releasing the BSY signal, the target shall not participate in another ARBITRATION phase for at least a disconnection delay or the time specified in the Disconnect Time Limit mode parameter (see section 7.3.3.2), whichever is greater." Note that Processor devices do not have mode pages, so don't have a Disconnect Time Limit field.
