X3T9.2/90-118 Rev. 0 July 13, 1990 To: John Lohmeyer, Chairman, X3T9.2 Larry Lamers, General Editor, SCSI-2 and Members of X3T9.2 From: Paul Boulay Laser Magnetic Storage Colorado Springs, CO (719) 593-4323 Subject: Standards referenced in the SCSI-2 CD-ROM Section Since the CD-ROM section of the SCSI-2 proposed standard was drafted the CD-ROM media specifications have become adopted international standards. IEC 908 - "Compact Disc Digital Audio System", 1987 - is equivalent to the Philips-Sony Red Book. ISO/IEC 10149 - "Information Technology - Data Interchange on Read- Only 120mm Optical Data Disks (CD-ROM)", 1989 - is equivalent to the Philips-Sony Yellow Book. The correct reference for International Standard Recording Code (ISRC) is ISO 3901. I propose that we remove references to the Red Book and Yellow Book and replace these with references to the appropriate standards documents. With this change SCSI-2 will better conform to the generally accepted practice of referring to published standards rather than to the documents of individual companies. Restated as a motion: The General Editor of the proposed SCSI-2 standard is directed to modify the CD-ROM section as follows: Replace all references to the Philips-Sony Red Book with references to IEC 908; and Replace all references to the Philips-Sony Yellow Book with references to ISO/IEC 10149. Add ISO 3901 where appropriate as a reference for ISRC. The committee asserts that this is an editorial change only and not a technical change.
