Date: Aug 04,1989 X3T9.2/89-101 To: X3T9.2 Committee (SCSI) From: George Penokie (IBM) Subject: Maximum Burst Size Rounding Definition PROBLEM The current SCSI-2 Specification (Rev. 10) section 7.3.3.2 Disconnect-Reconnect Page page 7-82 second to the last paragraph reads 'This value may be rounded as defined in 6.5.4.'. Section 6.5.4 states that if you round a parameter you must issue a check condition status. In the case of the Maximum Burst Size parameter what is being rounded is not the parameter but the result of the multiplication. The multiplication is gives a result which may or may not fall on a boundary the device considers valid and therefore may round the multiplication result. I do not think this rounding should result in a check condition as the original parameter passed is not modified. PROPOSAL The wording 'This value may be rounded as defined in 6.5.4.' should be changed to 'This value may be rounded to the nearest valid boundary condition.'
