To: X3T9.2 SCSI Committee X3T9.2/89-012r1 From: Pete Bramhall, Hewlett-Packard, Stoke Gifford, Bristol, England. Subject : Separation of BOM and BOP0 9 January 1989 Proposal: Rev 6a, page 9-4, 4th para, 2nd sentence. Add text at start : For some devices and tape formats, beginning-of-partition zero (BOP0) is equivalent to the beginning-of-medium; for others, it is not. Rev 6a, page 9-4, 6th para, 1st sentence. Remove first word {Additional} {} Partitions on a volume do not need to be recorded in any defined order, nor do all partition numbers in a sequnce need to be present on a volume. Rev 6a, page 9-14, 6th para. Replace 1st sentence by : A load bit of one indicates that the medium in the logical unit shall be loaded and logically positioned to the beginning-of-partition zero (BOP0). Rev 6a, page 9-53 Glossary. Replace 2nd para by : Beginning-of-medium. The extreme position along the medium in the direction away from the supply reel. For some devices and tape formats, this is equivalent to the start of the default data partition; for others, it is not. Justification: Not all partitioned sequential formats have Partition 0 at the beginning-of- medium. The above changes make the text more generally applicable, and clarify the differences between logical positions and physical positions.
