Dal Allan ENDL Thomas Wicklund Ciprico Robert Snively Adaptec The first public review period on ESDI (BSR X3.170-198X) ended October 3, 1988. There were several informal comments were received by the task group. In addition, two formal comments were received, one from GSA and one from NCR. In all, there were 7 comments received: 1) Registration authority procedure for vendor codes (88-61). 2) Revised vendor codes (88-73). 3) Correction to spindle motor control (88-74). 4) Tom Wicklund's comments (88-89). 5) Ciprico/NCR proposal on ESDI timing parameters (88-113). 6) GSA public review comment saying several tables and figures are missing (page 2 of 88-102). 7) NCR public review comment (88-119). The following actions were taken on the above comments: 1) Registration authority procedure for vendor codes (88-61). Dal and John will generate appropriate wording for the ESDI document. Dal and John will also investigate what is necessary in the way of a companion standard to establish a registration authority for ESDI vendor codes. 2) Revised vendor codes (88-73). Dal will add the Western Digital and Imprimis vendor codes. 3) Correction to spindle motor control (88-74). This correction was accepted. 4) Tom Wicklund's comments (88-89). These were mostly editorial and all comments were accepted. 5) Ciprico/NCR proposal on ESDI timing parameters (88-113). This document was accepted with minor editorial changes to make sure that the style is consistant with the ESDI document. 6) GSA public review comment saying several tables and figures are missing (page 2 of 88-102). Dal said that Mr. Rinehuls had withdrawn his comment after it was determined that he had received a bad copy of ESDI. John Lohmeyer accepted an action item to send a letter to him thanking him for his comment. 7) NCR public review comment (88-119). This document consists of four comments which were resolved as follows: 1. Hard Sector PLO Sync Format Timing (8.3.6) This may be a controller versus drive issue. It is not clear whether there really are any high-speed drives that cannot support alternative 2. The ad hoc group agreed to accept this comment tentatively. Hopefully, any manufacturers of high-speed drives that cannot support Alternative 2 will identify themselves prior to the San Diego meeting. Please contact John Lohmeyer 316-636-8703 or Bret Weber 316-636-8757 if there are any problems with requiring high-speed drives to support Alternative 2. 2. READ GATE Window (7.7.1.4.1) Accepted as an editorial change. 3. Command Complete after Head Switch (9.3.1.12 and 6.3.8.1) Bret agreed to drop this comment. 4. Transfer Rate (7.7.1.2) Accepted. Also brought up during the ad hoc meeting was the fact that a change should be made in the figures where the address and data pad bytes specify that they are reported in response to request configuration commands. This should be changed to say that they may be calculated from parameters returned in the request configuration commands. An example exists in the appendix. The working group recommended that Dal edit these changes in ESDI and that a forwarding motion be planned for the December 1988 meeting.
