These are a bit cryptic, but they principally serve to help the editors prepare the next revision, which is the "proof of the pudding". 1. Grown Defect Management [87-151, 88-004] (Johansson) [88-012] (Farnsworth) 88-004 Page 3: Accepted wording changes related to the CmpLst Bit in FORMAT UNIT command. Also add an implementors note warning people to not use logical blocks when the CmpLst bit is set to one. 88-004 Page 4: Accepted wording changes in first paragraph. The NoMap bit was rejected. There was discussion on the need to define physical block; maybe it should be changed to physical sector. Logical blocks should not be returned for READ DEFECT DATA. Make the data format vendor specific. The wording in READ DEFECT DATA and FORMAT UNIT for CmpLst = 1 needs to be synchronized. Dal requested an appendix to explain its intention, from Peter Johansson. The above three items were dealt with in an off-line session which produced a revision of FORMAT UNIT and READ DEFECT DATA that addresses these concerns. The revision was accepted for inclusion in SCSI-2 R4. 88-012: Accepted for inclusion in SCSI-2 R4. There was some discussion on what the meaning of access to the medium is. 2. [] bracket removal (sections 9 - 17) Sections 1 through 8 were completed at the last working group. Section 9 - Sequential Access Devices: Dan Davies has been appointed as editor of section 9. Dan Davies accepted an action item to work on tape model. Dan Davies accepted an action item to do the sequential access device initialization procedure. Bill Spence accepted an action item to work on some of the glossary terms. Section 10 - Printer Devices: Move MODE SELECT/SENSE to Section 7. Section 11 - Processor Devices: Reviewed. Section 12 - Write-Once Devices: Reviewed. Section 13 - Read-Only Devices: Reviewed. Section 14 - Scanner Devices: Reviewed. Section 15 - Optical Memory Devices: Reviewed. Section 16 - Automatic Medium Changer Devices: Include 87-187-R1. Section 17 - Communications Devices: There were questions on the redeeming value of having this section in SCSI-2 R4. Dal does not think it the section has enough merit to justify its existence. However the consensus was that the section should remain for the time being. The control of AEN needs to be dealt with. How is it turned on/off? This item was added to the plenary agenda. The ECA bit is open loop - it seems to require a Page 6 in MODE SELECT which does not exist at this time. This item was added to the plenary agenda. The working group directed the editorial staff to synchronize additional sense codes across all device types, noting that some pain and anguish will surely result. However the committee has for too long ignored its responsibility in this area. A generic table of additional sense codes will exist in Section 7 that applies to all device types. A device specific table of additional sense codes will exist in each device section. 3. Corrections to Deferred Errors [87-019R1] (Snively) Accepted for inclusion in SCSI-2 R4 with modifications to be supplied by Bob. Change paragraph at bottom of 87-019R2 (marked up copy) page 4 to read: "... COMMAND phase to the next phase of a continuing command sequence." Also page 2, para. labeled 2) to read: "If a deferred error...a causing initiator or initiators...the causing initiator(s)". 4. 3rd party RESERVE/RELEASE for copy management. [87-131 R3] (Boulay) Accepted at the last meeting. 5. Proposed MODE SELECT Changes [87-167R1] (Houlder) Accept paragraph 3 "page 7-40" as modified. Skip will develop a two-bit proposal to eliminate Maxtor's vendor uniqueness related to automatic recalculation of MODE SELECT parameters. Accepted revised wording for TB Bit. The editors are directed to deal with the issue of consistency regarding the text on rounding. This may depend on Skip's two bits. Accepted wording changes on page 8-34 for Sectors per Track as modified. Rejected page 8-35 suggested wording changes. R. Snively has action item to draft implementor's note for ambiguity on embedded controllers. Rejected page 8-36 suggested wording changes. This battle has been fought before. Jim McGrath has action item do an implementors note. 6. Error Recovery Modifications [87-177R1] (Spence) This document is deleted from further consideration. The topic is now part of the ACCESS LOG proposal. 7. ACCESS LOG proposals (Spence) Jim McGrath is developing a new proposal. It will have two commands. SCSI-2 R4 will stay with ACCESS LOG until this proposal can be considered. 8. Long vs. Short BUSY [87-192] (Semenak) Deferred to plenary at Jim's request. 9. SCSI Arbitration Timing [87-197] (Lohmeyer) Accepted for inclusion in SCSI-2 R4. 10. Clarification of SDTR Protocol [87-199, 212] (Spence) Accepted part one of Proposal 1 of 87-199 for inclusion in SCSI-2 R4. Part 2 generated some discussion of the need for a single initiator option being specifically stated in SCSI-2. Editor directed to improve wording. Accepted Proposal 2 of 87-199 for inclusion in SCSI-2 R4. Accepted the following paragraph for inclusion in SCSI-2 R4 to deal with 87-212. "If a SCSI device having a current synchronous transfer agreement with another SCSI device must go from synchronous to asynchronous mode in a fashion such that the other device may not detect the change, the SCSI device shall initiate and successfully complete an SDTR message exchange before any attempt is made to transfer data between the two SCSI devices." 11. Maximum Burst Size wording [87-202] (Davies) The disk control and queue control pages are to be moved to section 7 as generic MS/MS pages. The interface page from section 15 is also to be moved to section 7. Accepted 87-202 R2 for inclusion in SCSI-2 R4. This document was generated at the working group meeting. 12. Sequential Access residues [87-205] (Semenak) Accepted for inclusion in SCSI-2 R4. Add agenda item for plenary to discuss the write filemarks residues. 13. B Cable Pin Assignments [87-207] (Harms) Accepted for inclusion into SCSI-2 R4. Add agenda item for plenary to decide if connector styles for 68 pin cable other than the miniature style at the April plenary should be included in SCSI-2. 14. CD-ROM Proposals [87-106, 210R1] (Lamers, Boulay) The current working document is 87-210r2. There was some disdain expressed about the minutes-seconds-frames addressing defined for CD-ROM. There was discussion on moving these references to an appendix, but no action was recommended at this time. This document will be included in SCSI-2 R4. 15. Message parity error clarification [87-213] (Spence) Accepted for inclusion in SCSI-2 R4. 16. Message handling [88-009] (Anderson) Accepted as modified for inclusion into SCSI-2 R4. 17. Rejection of mandatory messages The question is whether it is ever acceptable to reject a mandatory message. The consensus of the working group was that certain situations can arise that might be necessary or expedient to do so, therefore the document could not prohibit rejection of these messages. 18. UPDATE BLOCK modifications [88-001] (Stai) Accepted for inclusion into SCSI-2 R4. 19. Questions on Section 5 [88-003] (McGrath) Add to pg 5-24 IDENTIFY message: "[reserved bits set to one response to be defined. may be message reject or some other strange response]". Add to last para pg 5-1 BUS FREE after first sentence: "The target may perform this transition to the BUS FREE state independent of the state of the ATN signal." 20. INQUIRY & CHANGE DEFINITION modifications [88-005] (Stai) Accepted for inclusion into SCSI-2 R4. 21. Clarify FORMAT UNIT command [88-012] (Farnsworth) This topic dealt with in item one. 22. PF Bit requirement in MODE SENSE [88-015] (Davies) Accepted for inclusion into SCSI-2 R4. 23. WRITE command for sequential access devices [88-021] (Appleyard) Accepted for inclusion into SCSI-2 R4. 24 RECOVER BUFFERED DATA command for sequential access devices [88-022] (Appleyard) Deferred. 25. Phase definitions [88-023] (Snively) Accepted as modified for inclusion into SCSI-2 R4. (JBL has mods). 26. Unimplemented page request response [88-024] (McIntyre) Add the following to pg 7-34, para 2: "When the page code value requested is not supported by the target, the target may return the unimplemented page in the MODE SENSE data with the page length set to zero." 27. Rotational Position Locking [88-025] (Mortensen) This document was remanded for further work. There is a need to address ESDI-like status. What is the model for this extension? Bob Mortensen, Gene Milligan, Tom Gardner, and Dal Allan accepted an action item to continue work on this subject. This work continued at the working group and the resulting document 88- 025 R1 is accepted for inclusion into SCSI-2 R4. 28. Unit Attention rewording [88-026] (Houlder) See 88-028. Accepted with the following changes: Add: "(6) Any other condition deemed appropriate to the target." Change "may" to "shall" on line three. (3) now reads: "The version or level of microcode has been changed." (5): "...has been changed." 29. MODE SELECT rewording on saving pages and nonchangeable parameters [88-027] (Houlder) Proposed changes to page 7-30 accepted with modifications. Proposed changes to page 7-31, this issue was decided in Orlando, document 87-163, host must send correct value, ignoring not allowed. We will add square bracket note to Rev 4 and let the plenary decide the issue. Proposed changes to page 7-31 second to last paragraph. Accepted wording change. Proposed changes to 7-41, not accepted however directive for editorial rewrite to eliminate `should`. Terminology for page length needs editorial help. Proposed changes to 7-41, last paragraph. 30. MODE SELECT handling (implemented options?) Implemented options is dropped as a discussion item due to lack of interest.. 31. Request Sense Clarification (88-029) (Boulay) Accepted for inclusion into SCSI-2 R4. 32. Proposed Definition of Caching (88-030) (McGrath) Deferred. 33. Wide Data Transfer Request (Allan) This does not negotiate the same way as synchronous data transfer requests. Add to the plenary agenda for discussion. 34. Message Table - conditions for dropping ATN. Define sequences for messages before ATN dropped by initiator. This table will be stuffed into SCSI-2 R4 and left to be torn apart. Due to lack of time, the following items were not discussed and will be carried over: Agenda Items for SCSI-3 50. SEND DIAGNOSTIC Pages [87-186] (Spence) 51. LOAD SKIP MASK command proposal [87-203] [87-217] (Floryance, McIntyre) 52. More that 8 devices on wide SCSI [87-206] (Harms) 53. Search Command modifications [88-002] (Stai) 54. Expanded RelAdr Bit [88-007] (Boulay)
