Minutes of the Ad-hoc Meeting Agenda Item 1: The primary task of this ad-hoc meeting was to deal with the square brackets in the SCSI-2 R3 document. Other items were interspersed to prevent square-bracket shock. This meeting covered sections 1 thru 8 of the document. Sections 9 thru 17 and the appendices will be covered at the next ad-hoc meeting. The list of action items is the principal result of the square bracket removal. In addition the general editor marked up a copy of the document indicating the action taken on each square-bracket. A square bracket that did not generate an action item was either deleted or required only minor editorial change. Agenda Item 3: Jim was as fast at proposals as the proposed FAST SCSI. Two revisions were received at the ad-hoc meeting. In 87-195 R3 the interpolation was removed, you either operate in normal or fast mode. 87-195 R4, which is forthcoming looks like it will clear the hurdles. The ad-hoc group recommends the incorporation of FAST SCSI into SCSI-2. Agenda Item 4: Document 87-209, proposed added command for WRITE SAME was accepted. Opcode 4Ah was assigned. Agenda Item 5: Document 87-115 R2, proposed pin one definition for flexible disk MODE SELECT page, was accepted. Agenda Item 20: See part 7 of the minutes. Dates and locations were picked for the general ad-hoc meetings for the remainder of 1988. Agenda Item 21: Document 88-009, by Dexter Anderson, tried for the umpteenth time to set wording to clarify target message response. A meeting of SWIG-009, lead by Dexter is scheduled for Monday evening of the February plenary meeting to try again. Agenda Item 22: Ben Driscoll received several comments from the ad-hoc on the SCANNER command set. The gist of it all was that the command set was not 100% in tune with the "normal" SCSI architecture for command descriptor blocks. The chair advised that even though there has been little written objection to date, that when SCSI-2 goes for public review the SCANNER section may draw some fire. The scanner folks would then be forced to re-write the CDB's or defend their position. Ben felt that the proposed command set was accepted by those implementing SCSI for scanners and that changing the CDB's would prove counter-productive. The ad-hoc group recommends that Ben get a vote of approval for the existing command set from the plenary. Agenda Item 23: There was a discussion on limiting SCSI-2, removing features from SCSI-2 that are not completely thought out yet, and tabling all new proposals. The discussion was precipitated by Bill Spence's document 87-215, Drawing the line on SCSI-2. There is a consensus that somehow the committee needs to set limits in order to have a chance at getting SCSI-2 forwarded this year. The only item on the postpone list that was not accepted for inclusion in SCSI-3 was the FAST SCSI option. A new term, SWIG, is used to designate a special working interest group (interleave = 2) to keep alive the those proposals that do not get into SCSI-2. Each SWIG is designated by it's proposal number and appointed a focal person to lead the discussion. There is an assumption that much of the discussion will take place via the SCSI-BBS. The ad-hoc group recommends that 87-215 be adopted as the working basis for this solution. Agenda Item 24: The deferred error discussion continued. Bob Snively again submitted his document 87-79 on deferred errors. The proposal will be re-worded to delete 72h and loosen up 71h requirements. The ad-hoc group recommends the revised proposal be incorporated into SCSI-2 R4. Agenda Item 25: How to deal with the two methods of presenting the additional sense codes? The consensus was that the list of additional sense codes would be in the body of the document. The cross-reference chart showing which commands generate the codes would be in the appendix. Agenda Item 26: The ACCESS LOG command is the new name of the READ LOG command. SWIG-006, headed by Bill Spence was formed to resolve this one. Agenda Item 27: Jeff Stai's proposal, 88-005, regarding wording changes for the CHANGE DEFINITION and INQUIRY commands is recommended for incorporation into SCSI-2 R4 by the ad-hoc group. 6. Action Items Bob Snively: Reword implementors note on page 5-5. Dexter Anderson: Provide master copy and MAC+ file for Fig. 5-1. Dexter Anderson: Propose wording for multiple groups of messages. Ref. Bill Spence document. Gerald Houlder: Proposed additional wording for UNIT ATTENTION conditions not currently covered. Larry Lamers: Justify LoEj STOP UNIT command not getting UNIT ATTENTION condition. Dan Davies: Proposal on whether PF bit is justified in all cases. Jim McGrath: Define what a cache is. Jim McGrath: Propose wording to specifically state bi-directional data transfers are not allowed. Ben Driscoll: Procure an assurance from the plenary that the SCANNER command set is acceptable as is. Bob Snively: Propose wording for CHANGE DEFINITION command & reset. John Lohmeyer: Give the ad-hoc a definitive answer on DDF bit. Dave MacIntyre: Propose a consistent definition for Page Code length of zero. Jeff Stai: Propose wording to move the SNS bit to VPD. 88-005 Jeff Stai: Propose wording to add password function to CHANGE DEFINITION command. 88-005 Larry Lamers: Conduct meeting at next working group to deal with the COPY command functions codes. Larry Lamers: Incorporate 87-125, vendor identification list, into an appendix for SCSI-2 R4. Gerald Houlder: Propose wording for saving parameters on a per initiator basis. Larry Lamers: Propose wording for sense key Fh. Bob Snively: Reword parts of the deferred errors proposal. Peter Johansson: Proposal for proper actions under read/write error recovery procedures. Jim McGrath: Propose better wording for the RC bit. Dal Allan: Definition of a notched drive. Jim McGrath: Propose additional wording for MODE SELECT pages 3 & 4 for notched drives. Jeff Stai: Propose an alternative for CONDITION MET status in PRE- FETCH. 7.
