J. Lohmeyer asked to be called prior to a meeting so a number could be given for those documents which will be distributed at the meeting. This will shorten document distribution at the plenary meeting. There is no need for document numbers on working group papers unless it is something of interest to the whole group. 4. Attendance and Membership The meeting was attended by 76 individuals from X3T9.2 and 28 individuals from X3T9.3. The X3T9.2 attendee list is enclosure (2). A summary of X3T9.2 membership changes since the December meeting is found on enclosure (3). 5. Approval of Minutes - December Meeting in San Diego 5.1 X3T9.2 #67 The minutes were reviewed and approved with minor corrections. They will be reissued as X3T9.2/86-127 Rev 1. 5.2 X3T9.3 #59 The minutes were reviewed and approved. 6. Review of Old Action Items 6.1 X3T9.2 6.1.1 D. Loski was to reword the hard reset default discussion. This was not done and will be carried over. 6.1.2 D. McIntyre was to revise the proposed SCSI logo. This was done and is X3T9.2/87-23. Refer to item 8.1 below. 6.1.3 G. Stephens was to make a proposal to enumerate those MODE SELECT changes which cause UNIT ATTENTION for Sequential Devices. This was not done and will be carried over. 6.1.4 D. Loski was to make a proposal to enumerate those actions which cause UNIT ATTENTION for Direct Access Devices. This will be dropped. 6.1.5 W. Burr was to prepare a proposed statement of SCSI-2 compatibility goals. This was reassigned to D. Allan and R. Snively. 6.1.6 M. Rudy was to produce a proposal covering optical disk changers. This was done and is X3T9.2/87-17. 6.1.7 L. Lamers was to draft an implementors note on rounding. This was carried over. 6.1.8 J. Semanak was to investigate trademark issues. This was done. AT&T legal staff did not feel that it is worthwhile for them to persue this issue further. J. Semanak feels a letter to the trademark office from [X3T9.2|X3T9|CBEMA|ANSI] is advisable. 6.1.9 W. Burr will explore, with ANSI and X3, incorporation of text from SCSI (X3.131-1986) into product documentation. This was completed, although ANSI is still investigating the issue. Copies of the SCSI- 2 draft can be obtained from Global Engineering Publications (800/854-7179 or 714/540-9870). They sell SCSI-2 drafts (X3.131-198X) for $50. Committee members and observers are able to get the document for review and comment purposes from the editors on floppy. The ANSI copyright precludes usage for other purposes. 6.1.10 W. Burr was to discuss a vendor code registration authority for the Vendor Identification field of the INQUIRY command, with X3T9. This was not done and is carried over. 6.1.11 W. Burr was to provide mail labels to D. Spence and C. Warren. This was completed. 6.1.12 W. Burr was to discuss holding four rather than six plenaries a year at X3T9. This was done and no decision was made. (See item 11., below.) 6.1.13 W. Burr was to forward SCSI-2 draft to the X3 Secretariat with a request to make it available through the normal X3 document sales mechanism. This was done refer to 6.1.9 above. 6.1.14 T. Johnson was to produce a more detailed proposal on printers. This was done and is covered in X3T9.2/86-126. 6.2 X3T9.3 There were no action items. 7. Working Group and/or Project Status Reports 7.1 SCSI-2 General A detailed review of the January ad-hoc meeting in Irvine, CA was carried out. See document X3T9.2/87-2 for details. A number of items were remanded back to the ad-hoc working group. 7.2 SCSI-2 Optical A review of the January ad-hoc meeting in Colorado Springs, CO was carried out. See document X3T9.2/87-3 for details. Several of the members that did not attend this meeting had disagreement with the meeting's output. Virtually all of the items were remanded to the next working group meeting. 7.3 SCSI-2 Scanners A formal report was not presented. J. Murphy is planning a scanner ad-hoc meeting on March 10 at DEST Corporation in Milpitas. He can be contacted at 408/946-7100 for further information. 7.4 ESDI The working draft has been reviewed and updated. One issue remains on the 24 Mhz timing. The draft is scheduled to be completed in June 1987. 7.5 IPI Multimaster Not discussed pending definition of Functional Requirements. 7.6 IPI-2 Tape A draft of the command set for magnetic tape, Rev 3A prepared by G. Reichenberg was reviewed and updated. The objective is to submit copy for committee review at the April meeting. 7.7 IPI Comm A letter ballot was sent to X3T9. They made a motion to send the draft document back to X3T9.3. The committee is requesting from X3T9, a list of specific criticisms. 7.8 IPI-3 Disk The command set for device generic for magnetic and optical disks is being worked on by the ANSI editor and the first pass has been reviewed. Bob Driscal raised an item re the need for encoded status to reflect L- Busy condition in the slave. This is to be added into the edited ANSI copy. 7.9 SMD and Flexible Standards Review G. Robinson is revising the Flexible Drive Standard. There were only editorial changes made, no technical. G. Milligan has the SMD standard in final edit. A marked copy is available for review. The target is to publish the SMD standard in February. 7.10 IPI-2 Disk Jim Luttrull raised the omission of CRC seed on Defect Map, and Bob Morris added that a note was needed on which bit is recorded first. This information has to become an addendum to X3.130 and be carried in X3T9.3 as an open item for the next revision or edition of IPI-2 publication. 8. Old Business 8.1 SCSI Icon/Logo The logo was presented with ratios for dimensioning. It was accepted for inclusion as an appendix. L. Lamers has an action item to draft wording for the appendix couched in terms of SCSI compatibility. 8.2 Compatibility Philosophy A much discussed subject. D. Allan and R. Snively have an action item to draft a proposal for SCSI and SCSI-2 compatibility. 8.4 16/32-bit SCSI-2 The chairperson made an appeal to connector manufacturers for input on the connector needs of 16/32-bit SCSI-2. REQ/ACK synchronization was discussed briefly and remanded to the ad-hoc working group. A desire for keyed connectors on differential vs. open- collector connections was expressed. 8.5 SCSI-2 Differential Drivers J. Schuessler will investigate the differential specifications in SCSI-2 to see if they can be revised to improve yields of the RS-485 parts used. 9. New Business 9.1 SCSI-2 Comm (X3T9.2/87-4) The sections for the Communication devices were adopted for incorporation into SCSI-2. 9.2 Jitter Budget for High Speed SCSI (X3T9.2/87-1) Differential termination resistor values: The survey requested by National Semicondcutor for input on testing parameters was completed. The test results will be reviewed at an FFWW ad-hoc meeting on April 1, 1987. (See item 11.) A different budget was decided upon for X3T9.3 because there are different requirements for distance. 9.3 Juke Boxes, Cherry Pickers, etc. M. Rudy was not in attendence. A proposal was received and distributed at the meeting. The subject was remanded to the optical ad-hoc working group. 9.4 Very High Speed Open Channel Interface D. Tolmie of Los Almos National Lab made a presentation on a very high speed open channel interface. Reference document X3T9.2/87-24 and 87-25. No action will be taken until after a meeting occurs on April 2, at National Semiconductor. (See item 11.) The purpose of the meeting will be to set goals. Several companies are reportedly interested in the development of such an interface standard. 10. Liaison Reports 10.1 IEEE P996 C. Warren was not in attendence. 10.2 IEEE P1134 C. Warren was not in attendence. 10.3 ISO J. Lohmeyer has sent the SCSI-ISO draft to W. Burr. D.
