Subject: SSC-3: 07-382r0 - MAM and Write Protect

Michael,
IBM's position on treatment of MAM when the volume is write protected is
that if a cartridge is write-protected, Write Attribute command is
rejected as write protected, 7/27/00. The sense key should be DATA
PROTECT (not MEDIUM ERROR).
The proposed text ", except for WRITE ATTRIBUTE (see SPC-4)," should not
be added and Table 5 should list DATA PROTECT instead of MEDIUM ERROR for
"Processing a WRITE ATTRIBUTE command that would result in alteration of a
write protected medium."
Thanks,
Kevin D. Butt
