A warm welcome from the Skye and Lochalsh Marketing Group to the members only section of the site. Please use these pages as a factual reference, and as an insight to the group's marketing strategy and overall philosophy.
We are a self-funded, non profit making community group, not dependant for finance or backing from any controlling organisation, nor reliant on politically biased interests outside our own area. We receive no support from Visit Scotland, preferring to acknowledge their international marketing effort whilst realising their aim is too wide for exact and concentrated focus on Skye and Lochalsh. We believe a website with a strong local viewpoint is paramount for marketing the commercial needs of the membership, and without doubt absolutely essential for servicing the needs of the prospective tourist.
The requirements of one of the most famous visitor destinations in the world are best served through the local business experience of the membership. Continued growth in membership numbers achieves self-sustainability, an important step in allowing the Island and Lochalsh to sponsor and support its own independent future.
Plea for Prompt Payment by Members and Advertisers
A new prompt payment policy will be introduced with immediate effect to reduce wasteful administration time and money spent chasing membership and advertising renewal fees. Whilst the majority of invoices are paid within the required 28 days, those which aren't cause an unwelcome diversion of time and funds which could be better spent on marketing activity.
The new policy will be as follows:
- Invoice sent requesting payment within 28 days.
- Reminder sent after 28 days requesting payment within next 28 days. Final reminder sent after 56 days requesting payment within 7 days.
- Members and advertisers who have still not paid within this period will have their data listings and advertising removed from www.skye.co.uk and be no longer allowed to participate in competitions, promotions and PR commissioned by SLMG.
We hope you agree that this is a fair and sensible policy for the benefit of all members.

skye.co.uk your number one site is regularly updated: Self evidently, the Google search engine placement of skye.co.uk as the number one site for the area makes membership essential. Regular updating of content, and the priceless local knowledge of an independent group aimed at specific target markets reinforces this position. Far from losing out to a bigger site, one less focused on this area, you are represented on a local site with vibrant, diverse appeal and offering specifically tailored advice. Accurate advance information for the visitor is best located on a local site using local resources, not on an international site trying to serve a variety of destinations simultaneously.
